A group of Special Olympics Bermuda athletes will team up for the Convex End-to-End charity walk tomorrow [May 3].
Special Olympics Bermuda are regular participants in the End-to-End and will make the journey from Beacon Hill in Somerset to Dockyard as part of the three-mile fun walk.
Sacha Richardson, the Special Olympics Bermuda board chair, said she expects more than 30 athletes, plus family and friends, to participate in the annual event.
“The majority of our group will be doing the fun walk, but we do have a few doing the Middle-to-End, at least one doing the Middle-to-End cycle and one or two doing the full End-to-End,” Richardson told Bernews.
Richardson emphasised the broader mission behind their participation: promoting inclusion and visibility for people with intellectual disabilities.
“We want to become visible in the public and will be wearing our Special Olympics Bermuda T-shirts,” she said.
“We’re often looking for support from the public, so it’s important for us to be seen supporting other endeavours. You give some, you get some back.”
The fun walk, sponsored by Athene, starts at 2pm and is suitable for families with small children.
Athene is also sponsoring the Special Olympics Bermuda team for the fourth year in a row.
This year’s event supports five local charities: Age Concern [ACB Hardship Programme], Bermuda Audubon Society [Conservation Management Plan for High Point], Bermuda Red Cross [Equipment Rental Revitalisation Programme], the Duke of Edinburgh Award, Bermuda and The Reading Clinic [Core Reading Programme].
