Videos: Chamber’s Panel Discussion
[Updated] On Wednesday [Jan.25] the Bermuda Chamber of Commerce hosted a panel discussion titled. “The Economy Now and a Vision For the Future.”
The panellists for the open forum were former Premier and businessman Sir John.Swan, political commentator and columnist Larry Burchall, Bermuda College Economics Lecturer Craig Simmons, Butterfield Bank CEO Brad Kopp.
The Chamber put two primary questions to the four-man panel; “What are the three main threats currently affecting the Bermuda economy?” and “What are the three priority solutions that Bermuda must undertake immediately and in the medium / long term that will ensure the continued prosperity of Bermuda?”
In answering, the panel spoke to many points, including Bermuda’s declining resident population, Bermuda’s changeover from Tourist Bermuda to Business Bermuda, Mortgages and loans, Present and future job opportunities for Bermudians, Work permits and Term Limits, Immigration and border entry procedures, Connections between Bermuda’s economy and the world economy, Bermudian pushback against non-Bermudians, GDP versus Balance of Payments as a way of measuring and tracking the economy and new tax factor created by Governments high Debt Service Cost.

That looks like at least triple the people than the sum of the first two PLP pre-budget town hall meetings.
… and I’m sure it was more informative. Too bad the PLP didn’t send their Cabinet for a lesson in economics.
