Police Confirm Death Of Kawaje Raynor
[Updated] The police have confirmed the death of 26-year-old Kawaje Raynor,
A police spokesperson said, “The Bermuda Police Service [BPS] can now confirm the identity of the male who died after being shot while at a residence on the Railway Trail, just off of Riviera Estate, Southampton as 26-year-old Kawaje Raynor.
“Mr. Raynor, a father of two small children, was outside his residence with others, at around 3:40 p.m. on Sunday, March 15, when two suspects arrived at the property on a dark coloured motorcycle. The suspects entered the yard of the residence and Mr Raynor was shot multiple times. The suspects then fled the scene traveling west along the Railway Trail.
“Police Officers and other first responders were immediately dispatched to the location and commenced life-saving measures. He was subsequently transported via ambulance to King Edward VII Memorial Hospital, where he was pronounced dead a short time later. A dog that was at the residence was also shot and killed.
“A full investigation has been launched and a large team of detectives has been assigned to the case under the direction of the Senior Investigating Officers, Detective Sergeant Mark Raposo and Acting Chief Inspector Randy Barker.
“Early information indicates that prior to the shooting, the same motorcycle may have been travelling through and casing the areas of Railway Trail, Scenic Heights, Rangers, and surrounding neighbourhoods.
“We are particularly interested in speaking with anyone who may have CCTV or ring camera footage from these areas during the afternoon hours of Sunday, especially between 3:00pm and 4:00pm. We also believe there were members of the public who would have observed the motorcycle with the riders acting suspiciously, just minutes before the shooting.
“If you were in the area and noticed a dark coloured motorcycle with two riders behaving in a way that seemed unusual or suspicious, we urge you to come forward. Even the smallest piece of information may be important to this investigation.
“Anyone with information that could assist this investigation is asked to contact Detective Sergeant Mark Raposo of the Serious Crime Unit on 717-2487 or via email at mraposo@bps.bm
“You may also provide information anonymously via the independent and confidential Crime Stoppers number, 800-8477 or, speak with an officer you know and trust.”
Update: Minister of National Security Michael Weeks said, “I am deeply saddened by the loss of life in this latest act of gun violence. My thoughts are with the victim’s family and loved ones as they face this life-altering loss.
“This is a serious and sobering incident because it shows that gun violence continues to endanger our community’s safety, and we still have much to do as a community to solve this problem.
“When a life is taken in this way, the impact is felt far beyond the scene itself. It affects families, it touches neighbourhoods, and it affects the wider community’s sense of safety.
“I also want to acknowledge the police officers and other first responders who acted quickly and professionally in the immediate aftermath. Their work is not easy, and they rely heavily on the public to make any meaningful progress in an investigation.
“If anyone knows anything or saw anything, please come forward. The community has a role to play if we are going to end this violence.”
Update: Shadow Minister of National Security Robert King said, “The shooting death of a young man this weekend is deeply troubling and heart breaking. My thoughts are with his family and loved ones at this very difficult time.
“Gun violence has no place in Bermuda. The loss of life to firearms in a country our size is simply unacceptable.
“This tragedy comes at a time when Bermuda has already recorded four road fatalities in the opening months of 2026. Together, these incidents highlight the need to keep public safety a national priority.
“Preventing violence requires earlier intervention with young people who may be at risk, stronger partnerships across our communities, and firm consequences for those who bring firearms into our neighbourhoods.
“Keeping our communities safe is a responsibility we all share. Bermuda must never accept gun violence as part of island life.”
