Jalen Harvey Signs Scholarship Letter
Bermudian Jalen Harvey signed a Letter of Intent to accept a scholarship to DePaul University in Chicago, and play in the Big East Conference.
The 18-year-old attended Saltus Grammar School before heading overseas for boarding school when he was 15-years-old. Last year he was the recipient of the Earl “Townsey” Russell Scholarship from the BFA valued at $5,000 per year.
Prior to leaving Bermuda, he played football for North Village Rams, Somerset Eagles Football Academy and Bascome FC. The talented young athlete has also represented Bermuda internationally in cricket, playing against the Bahamas in the ICC Americas U15 Championship in 2008.
Mr Harvey was a starting member of his Connecticut’s South Kent school team’s defense that set a school record with twelve shutouts and went undefeated on the way to the Cardinals fourth straight New England Championship. He was also named to ESPN High School’s All New England Prep School team.
The young Bermudian was one of three South Kent School soccer players that accepted scholarships to their respective Division I colleges during the recent NCAA national signing day.
“These three young men have represented South Kent wonderfully both on and off the field this year. I am proud to see that their discipline, hard work and outstanding quality was rewarded with scholarships to these great universities,” said Owen Finberg, head coach of the SKS varsity soccer team.
“They will be sorely missed here on the Hillside, but I have no doubt that they will excel as student-athletes at DePaul and West Point. The whole South Kent family should be extremely proud of Ben, Cody and Jalen,” he added.
Mr Harvey will join a fellow Bermudian at DePaul, with Anthony Hunter Jr. also having received a soccer scholarship to the Chicago school.
