Man Charged With 2008 Offence

February 13, 2012

In Plea Court on Friday, Vincent Hewey, now aged 22, appeared before Magistrate Khomisi Tokunbo facing two charges of importing and possessing, with intent to supply, cannabis.

Since the charges are indictable, and can only be tried in Supreme Court, Mr Hewey was not required to enter a plea.

Mr Hewey, then aged 18, had actually been arrested in December 2008, four years ago. The drugs were allegedly found in his luggage on his arrival at the Bermuda airport. The drugs found weighed 2,165 grams with the Court saying they had a street value of $46,200 if ‘wholesaled’; and $108,300 if ‘retailed’.

In 2008, Police had released him on Police bail, and he then traveled to Canada. Canadian authorities deported Mr Hewey to Bermuda and he was arrested on arrival last week.

Magistrate Tokunbo ordered that Mr Hewey must be held in custody until 24 February when he comes back for Mention.
