Water Price To Increase $10 Per Load
The cost for a load of water will increase to $90 — up from $80 — effective 1st April 2012. The Bermuda Water Truckers Association said the price increase was necessary due to the increased cost of doing business on the island.
Last month Minister of Transport Derrick Burgess said the Ministry will be placing a moratorium on issuing new water truck permits “in an effort to bring some stability to the market and minimize the impact of fluctuations in individual market share.”
Why is it that everyone is being forced to take cuts or decreases in income yet these guys come out with increases….and i dont wanna hear about rising costs to operate coz we all have have to deal with rising costs of just surviving on this lil rock in the ocean?
i cant charge my boss for the fuel i use to arrive at work or ask him to pay for the up keep of my vehicle….come on guys you are just transfering water from A-B…and i know that in a good week your licence and insurance is more than likely taken care of…Just remember it is your “business” not mines so why should i pay for operating costs….i just want water so thats what i pay for …you decided to provide this service not me .
Don’t buy water than
I agree with this sentiment. Due the ban on issuing additional permits, this business is now a cartel and therefore they can price as they wish. In many jurisdictions cartels are illegal. (British Airways were fined millions for a similar action) Water is a necessity and the price should be set by law, not by those benefiting from it.
Hey ease up on these guys. Water truckers have been having a very hard time. I know of quite a few who are pumping out cesspits on weekends just to make ends meet.
As soon as new competition is cut off, prices rise ! Go figure !
Retailers are just waiting for April 1st so they can start doing the same.
Protectionism NEVER works.
You are so right!! Come April 1st, the retailers will be in charge. Remember those deep discounts and sales right before Christmas? Yea, kiss those goodbye – no need to reduce prices, retailers are protected now. I can see it now, the attitude in the stores is going to be even worse: “You want that in a different size? Ha, ha. Take what we have or leave it. Now step off, I’m on my break.”
Thanks plp: my family is now “doing less, with less.”
A moratorium stops the introduction of new competition which should be bringing lower water prices to the people of Bermuda. The minister of transport says that’s not acceptable, since the investors of the stock market are of greater priority than everyone else. Another load of crap from the government.
Your stupid!
Yeah sure Andre, people should just go thirsty like you suggest, that’s a lot smarter now isn’t it?
Actually that should be ‘you’re stupid’ – and clearly you are! Perhaps you should go into faith based tourism.
Andre, All I’ve seen you do it try to insult people on here.
Let me give you some pointers. Trollings a art. No everyone can do it.
If you’re going to insult people, try not to look like a idiot yourself with so many grammer mistakes.
I suggest you look into getting a education before you end up bagging my groceries. Oh wait, you already do!
and Bermudian, you obviously already bag my groceries too!
“…seen you do iS try to…”
“Trolling’s (APOSTROPHE) aN art.”
“NoT everyone can do it.”
“…look like aN idiot”
“grammAr”
“aN education”
are you the product of Bermuda’s fine education system?
They have been chargeing $90 since last summer……………..
LOL
we can have a community water truck , just pay for gas, and get our own water. forget the truckers.
Excuse me why are they raising prices when you don’t even get the full load? The amount of times I have rode behind a water truck and all the water is flying onto the ground!!!! By time they get from town to somerset half that water is gone!!
This is island is becoming more and more ridiculous. Why does anything have to go up. People are struggling yet instead of decreasing value they are increasing it.
The should tax the air we breath also
