27-Year-Old Charged: Cannabis Possession

In Plea Court Fridsay morning [Mar.23], after pleading guilty to possessing 7.89 grams of cannabis on November 19th 2011, 27-year-old Pembroke resident Jody Carreiro was ordered to return to Court on May 17th 2012 to hear the results of a Social Inquiry Report and a report prepared by the Bermuda Assessment and Referral Centre.

Lawyer Saul Froomkin was defending and, in the course of asking that Carreiro be given an Absolute Discharge, Mr Froomkin noted that other jurisdictions seemed not to pay much heed to Absolute Discharges when making decisons about persons. Magistrate Khomisi Tokinbo commented that the amount of cannabis might indicate that the chance of an Absolute Discharge was remote.
