Bermuda Weather To Show On CBS
Bermuda weather will be shown daily during the CBS Early Show, Minister of Business Development and Tourism Wayne Furbert said this afternoon [Mar.13].
“We are about to undertake what I believe is an unprecedented opportunity. Never before has the Department of Tourism engaged in a venture where Bermuda will receive the exposure I am about to share,” said Minister Furbert.
“Ladies and gentlemen, our Ministry is currently looking to partner with Bermuda Broadcasting to receive international exposure through CBS Network by depicting the Bermuda weather conditions daily during the CBS Early Show.
“CBS Network will display the name of Bermuda at the top of the National Weather map during the weather segments between 7a.m. and 9 a.m. Eastern time. The graphic will also display the temperature.
“The Bermuda weather graphic will be carried on the National Network transmission which is carried by affiliates across the United States and via satellite around the world.
“Bermuda’s weather stats will scroll across the screen each morning alternating during the three weather segments. The feed with graphics including the Bermuda weather will be carried in key Bermuda markets including New York and Boston.
“CBS will receive a live shot from specified locations in Bermuda. The live shots will be aired during segment breaks. CBS presenters and crew will travel to Bermuda to conduct a segment for the Early Show.
“This segment will be carried across the United States with all affiliates in all markets and will be seen via satellite around the world. The Bermuda Broadcasting company will work with CBS to give CBS viewers a chance to win a trip to Bermuda. The terms of the contest will be shown during the live show and leveraged over the internet.
“Ladies and gentlemen, over the last few weeks I have been saying that Bermuda will increase its exposure and awareness through the broadcast medium or television. Well with this initiative Bermuda will get unprecedented exposure! Exposure on a daily basis!”
Minister Furbert was joined by Rick Richardson, the CEO of Bermuda Broadcasting Company, at the press conference.
And……
they should have let Oprah buy the damn house….that would have been free advertising on her show and magazine whenever she talked about her ‘little villa in Bermuda’ to millions of rich and upper middle class Americans….aren’t we such arrogant asses at times!!!!!
& How much will this cost?! LOL HMMMMM
Yes, but this should pay it self off. Good job. Hardest working MP in the PLP/UBP………..
LOL
This seems to be a good idea, but I wonder how much tourism it will actually generate. The timing of the morning news is primarily aimed at the average person who has it on in the background before work. What do we have to offer that person? For the cost of visiting here, perhaps money would have been better spent advertising in things like The New Yorker magazine, Forbes, etc.
Really exciting stuff!
WHAT will he pull out of that incredible top hat next?
I thought we were trying to trick tourists into thinking it’s warm here year round with our Spring Break ads. If we show them the weather every day, then won’t they know the truth? It’s actually warmer in NYC than it is here today!
I swear there is something wrong with us!! Maybe the Department of Tourism doesn’t know that historically Bermuda’s Spring Weather lags behind the east coast. Example: During April & May Bermuda can top out at 75 Degrees while the East Coast will be hitting 80!! Now if we did this promotion in Oct, Nov, Dec then it may have an impact as the east coast weather cools very quickly. Novel idea but wrong time of year!
Really? C’mon this isn’t at all new, at various times in recent history BDOT has entered into agreements such as this with BBC and or VSB as affiliates of their respective parent US Networks.
This isn’t free it’s negotiated advertising or better yet an advertorial, now I’m not knocking Min. Furbert for signing the check but it surely isn’t the first time this has been done and it’s not some new out of the box initiative.
“We are about to undertake what I believe is an unprecedented opportunity. Never before has the Department of Tourism engaged in a venture where Bermuda will receive the exposure I am about to share,” said Minister Furbert.
Does anyone know what we got for all of that money that was spent on Global Hue?
a new pair of flip flops!
LOL !
Global Hue…was a friend of our former premier, and we all know what that was all about…Brown is known as the ten percent premier…
We got fleeced!
An increase in air arrivals for the first 2 years they were hired before the recession hit. Not so much complaining then.
Well done Minister Furbert!
The UBP leader may have some critisisms but at least he his trying different stuff. I’m gonna give him some credit for his effort – but why does it take the UBP leader to be the hardest working guy within the PLP? I can’t understand that one! Someone please explain..
OK what happens when the US is hotter than Bermuda to rain here or our inability to go above 85. Great to have the name Bermuda, but a I wish I was in Bermuda tagline would be far more effective at sticking in minds.
Well at least the man is working. The last Minister was putting us to sleep.
He is trying and working really hard, I I agree.
He’s trying to do something. And for once it’s not simply copying something that previous ministers showed wouldn’t work.
UBP ALL DE WAY! Wait a minute…my bed. PLP ALL DE WAY!
‘Unprecedented’, ‘never before’, ‘I’, ‘I’, exclamation marks all over the page, the writing here is the story. What energy these guys have!! Wow! Kazam! Maybe it is the Golden Age of Tourism! Anyway, its been 15 long years of pretty much nothing and lies so I guess Wayne has to have his try. And he is trying, please understand that. We may lack the professionalism of most places which spend millions of dollars on international marketing, but he can work a Westjet PA and hey, that’s got to be part of the battle! But this idea is good, so Wayne I am with you all the way here. Now, get that new Banana Beach ‘motel 6′ up and running and we’re right back where we started! Don’t you just love the good old days!
