Man Pleads Guilty To Handling Stolen Laptop

March 15, 2012

In Plea Court this morning [Mar.15], 24-year-old unemployed Ijahmon Mallory admitted receiving the Mac laptop that had been stolen during the course of the armed robbery of American visitors Mrs Krolius and her two children at their Southampton holiday residence on 8th March 2012.

The DPP Prosecutor told Magistrate Khomisi Tokunbo that Police had tracked the Mac to Mallory and to Mallory’s residence. On questioning, Mallory admitted that he had once had possession of the laptop saying that he had purchased it from a ‘drug addict’, paying $250 for it.

Magistrate Tokunbo questioned Mallory: “You purchased this computer?” Mallory replied: “Yes sir.” Mallory then explained to the Magistrate that he had then sold the laptop to someone else for a 36 inch flatscreen TV and $200.

Mallory said that he had not yet received the whole $200 and was still owed a balance of $37. Magistrate Tokunbo asked if he had extended credit and Mallory replied that he had, and was expecting to receive the outstanding $37 balance on Friday coming [Mar.16].

The Crown Prosecutor told the Magistrate that this case was allied to a case dealt with previously and involving the same laptop and Tristan Daniels, who had been convicted of handling the stolen laptop; and who had been remanded into custody until appearing for sentence on 26th April 2012. The Prosecutor asked that the Magistrate take this into consideration when deciding on bail.

Responding to a Magisterial inquiry about the state of the investigation into the armed robbery, an attending Police officer told the Magistrate that the investigation was still ongoing and that the Mac laptop had been recovered.

Magistrate Tokunbo remanded Mallory into custody until 26th April when he will re-appear in tandem with Tristan Daniels.

  1. The Real Truth says:

I don’t blame this man at all. his actions are an indirect result of the grave which our Government has dug for us in regards to ignoring pervasive social issues over the decades.

we need a PLP re-election, but not for the reasons most people think. as a woman of mixed race who has watched in fascination while this Government uses racial rhetoric (coded and blatant) to spiritually demoralize and economically castrate the very demographic they claim to be fighting for, i’ve finally realized why its happening: because we deserve it. its time to sit back and take it, because make no mistake, we let this happen.

we deserve to live in the hell that our pride, selfishness and sense of entitlement has brought down upon us. the white government started it with fascism, cruelty and slavery, and the black government will finish it with self-loathing, greed and cognitive dissonance. neither side is solely to blame…we all share in it equally. i only feel sorry for the portuguese and other demographics, who had little to do with it but will nonetheless suffer when it reaches boiling point.

our chickens are coming home to roost, and re-electing the PLP is the quickest way to ensure that our children continue to grow up hungry, confused and full of hatred, thus speeding up the necessary, inevitable implosion of Bermudian society. the reassuring part is that we don’t even have to do anything…just sit back and let it happen.

tensions are far too high as it stands right now for there ever to be a reasonable political discourse again. we do not deserve the possibility of a better future that an OBA government MIGHT bring (even though they would likely be just as bad, if not worse).

PLEASE vote PLP, or else suffer another guaranteed 5 years of false hope.

    • Walla Walla says:

Yo are kidding me right? Did you not live in the same Bermuda as he and I?

    • hmmm says:

Please vote plp or blah blah blah we have been suffering since plp came into election!! Open ya eyes!!

    • Start singing says:

@the Real Truth , you’ve posted two nearly identical messages recently and both of them make my head spin like I presume one would feel after doing crack !
Are you being sarcastic , fecetious ? Who knows ?

Anyway , back on topic , what is disturbing is that (and this is not a new phonemenom) these little crooks have their excuses and lies all made well in advance of them being caught. They’re absolute pros , plain and simple .
Lock ‘em all up until someone starts to sing … no matter how long it takes.
I bet that little tracking device has knocked them all for a six ! ! hahahaa

  2. duh!! says:

PLP DOES NOT NEED TO BE VOTED IN!!

OBA ARE AT LEAST LOOKING OUT FOR THE PEOPLE AND THEY AREN’T EVEN IN POWER YET. IT TOOK PLP HOW LONG TO TALK ABOUT PAY CUTS! I SEE OBA DONATING TO THOSE IN NEED!!

PLP ARE DOING A LOT OF LIE TELLING?

WHAT HAPPEN TO THEM ONLY EXTENDED WORK PERMITS OF ONES WHO ARE AN ASSET TO THE COMPANY???????

EXSPECIALLY IN THE HOSPITALITY INDUSTRY WHERE BERMUDIANS ARE NEEDED BUT GET DISCOURGED INTENTIONLY!!!!!

    • tricks are for kids says:

@ DUH..If you read “Real Truths” post with UNDERSTANDING you would see that they are being sarcastic when they say, “PLEASE vote PLP…….

  3. Hmmmm says:

Lie dectoector on this guy already please.

  4. THE REALITY says:

To blame the PLP for this guy handling a stolen lapton shows just how small minded and LOW you OBA idiots really are! OBA are NOT going to win the next general election OK (IT AINT NO SECRET) ! So if you don’t like the PLP or have an issue with the PLP you better leave Bermuda IMMEDIATELY, NOW, TODAY B4 the next general election because you OBA idiots are gonna be extremely MISERABLE! Flights depart daily from Bermuda to many destinations! BYE BYE we don’t need you or that mentality!

    • THE REALITY says:

Oh and ALSO, the OBA are evil because they ACTUALLY have a chance of turning Bermuda AROUND, which would make the PLP look bad!!! even if the economy gets better, WE’D STILL BE RULED BY A WHITE GOVERNMENT, and thats unacceptable. The fact that MOST OF THE OBA IS BLACK doesn’t matter…they’re STILL A WHITE PARTY!

You people all need to wake up.

      • THE REALITY says:

ONE more thing…we need to get RID of the democratic system so that the OBA idiots have NO chance of EVER getting in power again (NOT THAT THEY WOULD ANYWAY) ! I don’t care if my 4 year old son grows up to be in Parkside, as LONG as I know that when he goes 2 trial, it will be a PLP government incarcerating him and NOT a RACIST WHITE ONE LIKE THE OBA!!! Our children don’t NEED ambitions because the PLP will ALWAYS take care of us!!!

        You all disgust me.

    • Um Um Like says:

      “Repatriation is a must”

It starts with you, The Reality! Set an example and go back to your ‘motherland’

  5. omar little says:

lie detector and sweat him out….or try him for armed robbery of the tourists…..you feel me…

  6. Rummy says:

    You got that right Reality.
    Let um leave.
Suck rocks ans seaweed. Maybe an occassional oil spill to fill your lanterns.
    Love it.

  7. REALLY says:

Blame Ijahmon’s parents for him being unemplyed with a name like that! Only in Bermuda! Your people make up the worst names on earth. Names hurt your chances of being employed in the States unless you just want to be a painter or garbage man. Ijahmon? WTF?

    • Voice of Reason says:

That is without question the most disgusting comment i’ve read on this site in a long time. I won’t call them racist as its lower than that!

      • He is right says:

He is right though..I am a Bermudian, work in the most senior levels of the largest bank in Bermuda and vet more than 20 resumes per month. I would very quickly dismiss a resume that has a name like Ljahmon as the first name. So too often the person lives up to whatever stereotype we have conceived in the first place. Bill Cosby talks a lot about this in Whats up People? And the author of Freakonomics does an even better job with specific socio economic research that the name a person carries does a lot in defining the person he becomes. You name him as a thug and thats what he becomes. We live in the real world and black people in particular have to think about what they name their children..

        • Marc Daniels says:

So by your logic, anyone named Tom, Dick, or Harry must never have committed a crime. Ijahmon is a thug name? Since when did a name of African origin equate to “thug” as different as it may seem to you?

I vet resumes everyday and the last thing I am concerned about is someone’s first name; their education and work experience is more important. Maybe if everyone took the approach which you refer to, a man named Obama could never be Premier, much less the President of the most powerful country in the planet.

          • He is right says:

While I respect greatly your opinion and the fact that you see a lot of people every day in your line of work, you must admit that your fair skin, good looks and name that every one can pronounce has helped to support your position in society.

            • tricks are for kids says:

That’s a strange thing to say! really!!!! you honestly think that??? WOW!!!!!!

            • Tommy Chong says:

Amazing!!! If only Marc had read the perspicacity you offer long ago he would have saved a lot of time & money used on education. Who would have known all he needed was fair skin, good looks and name that every one can pronounce. Your employer must be very proud that they hired someone so je ne sais quoi.

You do realize you are posting this on an article that mentions a highly successful magistrate who is a dark skinned brother with the name Khamisi not Tom, Dick, or Harry.

This is why none of my money is invested in the largest bank in Bermuda. Instead I invest in the smaller banks who make it a point to employ Bermudians no matter what they’re names are.

I would like to take one more jab since this has been a peeve of mine for a while as any who have read my posts would see. I know many of the accountants at your place of employment have changed their native names to western ones. In their country skin lightening products are used by many of their population. Some if they can afford even go to the extent of painful operations to extend their leg length. It’s sad they feel they must do this to adapt to western society. In this day & age no one should have to change their physical appearance to get a job. Do African descended people need to go this far to get a job. Its bad enough African descended females feel they need to straighten their hair to feel beautiful. I know there are many Bermudian employers who share the same hiring practices as you. I’m just glad you’ve been dumb enough to admit it online. Thank you for proving my point that I’ve been hammering away at for so long.

          • tricks are for kids says:

Marc I totally agree with you!!! it’s amazing the mindset of some people!. As for the Bermudian who has openly admitted that he casts resumes aside if they have “thug like” names without even perusing them seems to have issues. How can you determine what and who a person is based on their names?? thats the most ridiculous thing that I have heard in a long time. Lucky for him that he hasn’t printed his name because surely this is a case for The Human Rights Commission……

            • cygnet says:

@ Tricks are for kids- Thank you for yur comment. I agree that it would be a Human Rights issue. I get judged by my first name as it is considered a white or hispanic name. I have had people say once they meet me in person after talking to me on the phone. “Oh you are not what I expeced”. These have been bujsiness people and I once gave a delivery guy for saying that the “Come to Jesus talk”. He will never forget me or my name nor make judgement of anyones name ever again. By the way I know the young Mallory’s family very well and they are good parents. Lie is about choices and he aobviously made a very bad choice.

        • Tommy Chong says:

So you’ve admitted you work at the most senior levels of the largest bank in Bermuda & exercise prejudice hiring practices? Well that doesn’t come as a surprise since the smaller banks have more Bermudian staff. What does come as a surprise is that this bank hired someone so discerning they could share this insight with us.

Oh yes! Also, so I don’t have to waist my time explaining later. Saying you prejudge a person’s work performance by their name is prejudice. It’s even almost borderline racist & I don’t care how many African American comedians you quote. I hope you can recognize that at your most senior level?

          • Hmmmm says:

This name thing….. No prejudice should exist because of a name. Never judge a book by its cover. I remember living next door to a Mr Andrew Hole, his wife was Virginia Hole. Mr A Hole was a little strange, but never involved in any crime, at least to the best of my knowledge.

          • tricks are for kids says:

            Thank you Tommy!!!! Totally agree!!!1

        • cygnet says:

@ He is right – You need to be fired from the Bank with a comment like that. Human Rights needs to be informed about people like you.

          • Tommy Chong says:

As long as this person doesn’t comment on Ewart Brown I think their position in largest bank here is just fine. It’s the same mentality all the way to the top at this bank. The boss would just deny everything as no one can prove who (He is right) is. Actually its not entirely correct to state no one can prove this since everyone has their own IP address. I bet this most senior level person didn’t know that one. HEH! HEH! HEH! HEH! HEEEEH!

To think that some other posters have questioned MY intellect. mmm! mmmmm! SMH

        • Dennis Williams says:

You should loose your job for having such a bias outlook. Your comments sum up a lot of what is wrong with Bermuda and why we won’t ever get past certain issues….

    • Tommy Chong says:

People can change their name if thats all it takes in the states to get a better job. Besides the majority of states is unemployed at the moment & can’t figure out what went wrong with their economy. All the while their northern neighbors economy is doing just fine while selling their oil reserves to the Americans who weren’t smart enough to conserve their own. Any negative points we have in Bermuda are because of the adopted American mentality from gangs to drugs to our junk food eating slob lifestyle. Too bad we don’t try to be more European here since they don’t care about your name they just care if you can do the job & they aren’t so full of themselves like the U.S. so they help their nations more.

You should give respect to Bermudians instead of insults because without Bermuda the jamestown settlers would have starved, without Bermuda’s naval staging post the spanish would have conquered America & spanish would be the first language not the second, without Bermuda there would have been no place for Americas WW2 naval base that help them significantly, without Bermuda there would have been no Teddy Tucker oceanic discoveries & without Bermuda there would have been no one to insure America after 9/11. The ancestors of the people of this tiny island have helped America out of many situations while the States have leeched of of us & taught us bad habits that have destroyed our culture. FACE IT! The days of the U.S. empire are close to an end & soon U.S. will have to ally with another nation to survive so hope all Americans get used to drinking labatts & eating canadian bacon. EH!

    • Nothing to do with the name says:

      WTF? why don’t you STFU

  8. THE REALITY says:

    @REALLY well what about OBAMA?

    • Rummy says:

Bernews needs to get a “like” button.
      Voice of reason………LIKE.

    • THE REALITY says:

The reason I ask is because OBAMA is a RACIST! He PRETENDS to be black, and used it to GET ELECTED, but he is half- white and therefore HATES black people!!!

everything you hear about him helping minorities in America is LIES and MORE LIES… he CAN’T STAND THEM AND IT KEEPS HIM UP AT NIGHT!

The PLP has governed infinitely better than Barack Obama EVER could in his WILDEST, MOST INSANE DREAMS, and you all know it, so don’t EVER try to deny it.

PLP FOREVER UNTIL THE END OF TIME!!!!!

      • Tommy Chong says:

Your fries must have been left out of your happy meal because if Obama hated African descended people he would hate his wife & children. With your logic you probably think Bob Marley hated people of African decent as well. Maybe you’ve been reading too many Stokely Carmichael speeches.

      • Padded Rooms Galore says:

You’ve got to be kidding me…..did someone let the kids out to play again?

      • Uneducated people shock me... says:

What you are saying yourself is racist… Wake up would you? PLP has helped to ruin your home, my home, their own home. It’s about time someone else is in charge, I don’t care what color they are. Paint them purple! Sick of people thinking everything will be better if the PLP are given a chance to redeem themselves. They’ve had their chances! A government party shoudl run things right from the start, they shouldn’t run a country down to the ground. I didn’t see guns, gangs and all that jazz when UBP was in power. And Bermuda USED to be a safe place when I was growing up. Do you remember that? Dreamer…

  9. The Hell!! says:

One party ‘OBA’ will have us up the creek with one paddle the other ‘PLP’ no paddles. If the PLP get re-elected we need to have a mental evaluation on those voters because it seems that they enjoy a cut a**

  10. john says:

Who are u lot to judge ppl and to talk about his name!
Have u ever thought what if he’s telling the truth, this guys has a family
And u lot are criticizing him of a name! It jus shows u that racism is still alive
Ijamon is a strong name and for u ppl talking about resumes and you would never
Help them out, u wonder why gun crime rising cause racist c#nts like u ppl

    • Hmmmm says:

The guy at minimum is involved in buying and selling stolen goods, that is at minimum! Who would risk buying a MAC off a drug addict, if you have no source of income. What if it didnt work!

  11. The Hell!! says:

Access on line is getting to easy for some folks..

  12. Winnie says:

If I was the lead detective on this case both these guys would have been facing the courts for armed robbery. Let the jury decide, all or nothing.

  13. strugglin' onion says:

The whole thing is very sad & some of the coments above are uncalled for, just cruel. I know Ijahmon’s parents and, yes, they are disappointed in their son, but as his dad said to me, “Life is about choices”. His father is one of the nicest, honest & hardworking man I know and he his wife have been dealt a few bad cards over the recent decade . . . So don’t judge them as they have done their best. If anything, this Government has let them down in more ways than one.

  14. Pastor Syl says:

“Ijahmon” translated is “I am God’s man.” Sounds to me like his parents had a strong spiritual base and high hopes for for this young man. I am sure they did not raise him to be a ‘fence.’ Sad.
