Photos: It’s A Wrap For BIFF 2012
It’s a wrap for the 15th annual Bermuda International Film Festival [BIFF] which ran from March 16 through 22 — but here’s a selection of photos from the event which featured more than 80 movies screened, lunchtime panel discussions and glitzy opening and closing parties.
The festival opened with the glamorous BIFF Unwrapped cocktail party at Muse Restaurant & Sky bar from 9pm until late. The event allowed Bermuda film fans to rub shoulders with prestigious jury members, local and visiting filmmakers and film industry movers and shakers.
Two jurors served double-duty this year as BIFF Academy lecturers, with film academic Leslie Taubman presenting “Film Appreciation: Cinema as Art” and Oscar-winning film producer and director of the UK’s National Film and Television School Nik Powell looking at the art of cinematic storytelling from the point of view of the producer.
Additionally local film aficionado and host of CITV’s “Filmmakers’ Corner,” Keith Caesar, talked with Bermudian legend Michael Frith about “Fraggle Rock”, the Emmy Award-winning show he co-created with a little local inspiration.
And Bernews.com contributor Tim Hodgson discusses film journalism in the 21st century with National Public Radio’s Peter Rainer, Cinespect’s Carlos Segura and Filmmaker Magazine’s Lauren Wissot.
There were also special BIFF Kids programming and features to introduce Bermuda school children to the art of filmmaking.
The BIFF Wrap Party rounded out the festival week at Muse last Thursday, [Mar. 22] when jury and audience choice awards were presented to the shorts “The Runaway” and”The Candidate” and the feature documentary “The Island President.”
