Rogers To Conduct Plein Air Workshop
Turn a corner in Bermuda and there is a beautiful landscape or seascape waiting to be captured in a painting, but where to start?
This weekend award-winning international artist, Bill Rogers [one of his Bermuda paintings if pictured here], will guide painters of all levels through the principals of painting out on location, helping them to develop a more acute sense of observation, as well as learning techniques to simplify and translate their observations onto canvas and paper.
The Bermuda Society of Arts [BSoA] is sponsoring his two day En Plein Air workshop. The event is being held on Saturday [Mar. 24] and Sunday [Mar. 25] from 10 am to 4 pm on both days.
The cost if $195 for BSoa members, $225 for non-members.
Students may work in the medium of their choice and topics covered will include composition/design, colour and the application of paint. The effect of light is the most defining part of a landscape painting that gives it authenticity; this is mainly achieved with correct values and colour temperature.
A friendly constructive critique work will wrap up each day.
Bill Rogers is an Elected Member of the Canadian Society of Painters in Watercolour [CSPWC] and is currently the 1st vice president. He is also a signature member of the Transparent Watercolor Society of America [TWSA] and the Société Canadienne de l’Aquarelle [SCA].
Mr. Rogers is a multi media artist and most of his landscapes are painted plein air; he also usually paints from the model twice a week. Horses are a subject close to his heart and his 20 years of experience working with them has given him an intimate knowledge of their anatomy and characteristic actions that make his equine subject much sought after and winners of numerous awards.
Mr. Rogers has extensive teaching experience and teaches art part time at St. Francis Xavier University, in addition to various workshops both in Canada and internationally.
