Video: Pilot Boat Transports Sick Passenger
Approximately three hours after leaving Bermuda yesterday [Mar.21], the cruise ship Seven Seas Mariner turned back and returned to local waters after an 84-year-old passenger required medical treatment.
The cruise ship met the pilot boat St David off the east end of the island near the sea buoy at approximately 12:15am. The passenger was brought to Ordnance Island in St. George’s where an awaiting ambulance transported her to King Edward Memorial Hospital for treatment.
The Seven Seas Mariner arrived in Bermuda yesterday morning from Florida and spent the day docked in Hamilton. After disembarking the sick passenger, the cruise ship continued on its voyage to Funchal in the Portuguese Island of Madeira.
Last week another cruise ship diverted to Bermuda for similar reasons. Bermuda Radio received a satellite telephone call from the the passenger vessel “Prinsendam” on March 14, with the Captain advising of the need to evacuate an ill passenger. The passenger was transferred to pilot cutter ‘St. David’ at 10:20pm the following evening and taken to KEMH via ambulance shortly thereafter.
