Butterfield Bank Offer Online Account Opening

February 3, 2026 | 3 Comments

Butterfield has launched a digital account opening service for personal banking clients in Bermuda, meaning “residents can now apply to open a new bank account online and without the need to visit a Banking Centre.”

A spokesperson said, “Using the digital application form on Butterfield’s website, residents can apply for chequing, savings, fixed term deposit or supersaver accounts from the comfort of their own home and in as little as 15 minutes. The application process includes the ability to securely upload identity verification documents and to use electronic signatures.

“The launch of the digital service means existing Butterfield clients are also able to provide any requested documentation to complete periodic reviews digitally, removing the need to provide physical or certified copies.”

Jody Feldman, Managing Director of Butterfield in Bermuda, said: “Digital account opening is the latest example of how we are working to better our everyday banking experience. By introducing this technology, we are able to streamline the onboarding process and offer an effortless account opening experience.”

A spokesperson said, “With a Butterfield bank account, clients can gain access to a full world of financial products, including Butterfield’s rewarding AAdvantage Mastercard credit cards. For more information, please visit www.butterfieldgroup.com/en-bm.”

Exactly! and they want extra details when you open it (SMH). I can open an account in minutes, with the account actually available to deposit money into with HSBC and I believe that Clarien has something similar.

      But congrats Butterfield! Good job.

Open an account in a U.S. bank. If you go the right bank you will NOT be asked for identification, your address, your nationality or anything else that Bermuda banks are required to know.
