Police Service Issues Burglary Advisory

April 4, 2012

The Bermuda Police Service is today [Apr.4] advising the public to remain vigilant regarding burglaries.

Recently there have been a number of burglaries reported in various parishes throughout the island.

As a result, the public is encouraged to make sure all windows and doors are locked before leaving their homes unattended, even for short periods of time.

“We also recommend that residents check the identity of any persons coming into their home,” said Bermuda Police Service spokesman. “If uncertain, residents should check the authenticity of any unknown visitors before admitting them into their residence.

“We also continue to recommend that all residents secure their valuables out of sight, record serial numbers of all items and take pictures of their possessions. In particular, make note of electronic equipment and jewellery — so that if they are stolen and later recovered, there is an accurate way of identifying them.”

Members of the public are encouraged to report any suspicious activity in their neighbourhoods to the police by contacting 295-0011.
Finally, the public is reminded that receiving stolen property is an offence punishable under the law.
