Bermuda National Track & Field Championships
The Powerade Bermuda National Track & Field Championships will be held Friday June 15th & Saturday June 16th beginning at 5:00pm each day.
BTFA President Donna Watson said, “This is going to be a phenomenal event as we will be bringing home all of our Elite athletes to compete plus overseas competition.
“All of our athletes have confirmed and the line up will be Tyrone Smith competing in the Long Jump, Arantxa King Long Jump, Aaron Evans 800m, Tre Houston 100m & 200m, Alison Outerbridge Triple, Jump, Henry Stevens-Carty 800m, 1500m, Jasmine Brunson Long Jump & Triple Jump, Ashley Berry 1500m & 3000m, Dage Minors 1500m & 3000m, Latroya Darrell High Jump and Triple Jump.
“We will also be having our Carifta medalist and Bermuda Junior Record Holder Taylor Ashley Bean competing in the 800m and 1500m. Justin Donawa our Carifta Gold Medalist will be home to compete in the Long Jump and Triple Jump. Of course our Carifta Medalist Shaquille Dill 800m and Juma Mouchette 1500m & 5000m.
“Lamont Marshall who is attempting to qualify for London 2012 in the 1500m and will also compete in the 800m. Ashley Estwanik will be competing in the 5k as she attempts to break the Bermuda National Record in that event. Of course all of these athletes are trying to reach standards for various events London 2012, CAC Jnrs and World Junior Championships.
“Most of these athletes will be coming off some great performances overseas and this would be the first time in many years that they have competed in front of their home crowd,” continued Ms Watson.
“To make this event even more exciting we have invited around 16 athletes who have accepted and will be in Bermuda to compete against our Senior Elite athletes and also some of our Junior Athletes. Several of these athletes have been in the top 3 in their Regional championships and have qualified for the NCAA Indoors and Outdoor championships.
“Tyrone will be bringing with him 2 Long Jumpers plus we have another jumper who will be competing who has jumped over 8.0m. We have several 800m female athletes who will be coming as Taylor Ashley Bean is trying to reach the qualifying standard for the World Junior Championships. 2 of Arantxa’s team mates will be coming to compete against her in the Long Jump.
“Two of Latroya’s team mates will be coming to compete in the High Jump and Long Jump. We have a few males who will be competing in the 100m & 200m with Tre Houston and hopefully Jeneko Place and Kyle Webb will benefit from this competition.
“One of Aaron’s team mates will also be traveling to Bermuda and he will be competing in multiple events. 2 of Shianne Smiths team mates will be competing in multiple events with Shianne and with them competing in the 100m will bring some competition for our 100m junior athletes who are preparing for the CAC Jnr Championships.
“We are looking forward to this being a great event to showcase our Senior Elite athletes with some of them preparing for London in front of Bermuda.
“We are excited about this and hoping that Bermudians come out and see these athletes in action. This is the first time in many years that we have had overseas competition for our championships. Of course our own Bermudians will be named the champions and the overseas athletes will be All-Comers champions,” concluded Ms Watson.
