Bulk Carrier Diverts For Sick Crew Member

Bermuda Harbour Radio received a report on Sunday [May 6] that the Greek registered bulk carrier Diamantina was diverting to Bermuda because of a sick crew member.

The Diamantina was enroute from Newport News in the U.S.A. to Visakhapatnam, India. The crew member was a 34year old Filippino 2nd Officer who was suffering from a foot infection.

Pilot boat St David made its way out to meet the ship and pick up the crew member. By 9:30pm the transfer of the patient had been completed and he was then transported to King Edward VII Memorial Hospital by an awaiting ambulance that was at Ordnance Island in St. George’s.
