May 29, 2012

Just past 10am this morning [May 29] there was an accident involved two cars on North Shore Road in Flatts, outside the Aquarium. Traffic was delayed for a while while emergency personnel tended to the car occupants, with fire, police and the ambulance service attending. At least one person was injured, possibly two, receiving what we unofficially understand to be non life threatening injuries.

  1. Chart says:

This is a frequent accident location. It seems that there a specific locations on the island that have bad accidents time after time … has Gov ever done any analysis of these trouble spots with plans for remediating the risk?

    • Family Man says:

They will if they can figure out to skim a little money out of it.

    • Ryan says:

It’s not the government’s job to force people to become better drivers; besides, they attempted to slow people down in this area by way of speed bumps, etc. Evidently, it didn’t work.

This problem is, by and large, due to reckless and careless driving, in addition to, as other commenters have mentioned, the Island’s historically narrow roads, which only recently have begun to accommodate vehicles that are too large for them.

  2. Concerned says:

No one pays attention to traffic in front of them and in this area the warning lights – must have been distracted by music/children/cell phone/people/car in the parking lot.

Thank the Lord no serious injuries, HE IS GOOD!

  3. Frank'N'Onions says:

It’s partly due to a road system that was largely designed with horse carts and bicycles in mind. No amount of “fixing” is going to change the fact that our roads are narrow, congested and there is a segment of population that drives carelessly and recklessly on our roads.

It isn’t the governments’ fault – they tried to slow people down in flatts and all they got was flack from drivers. What we really need is some undercarriage wrecking speedbumps that force you to drive over them at 10kph.

  4. Jai says:

The Flatts area is busy & crazy, everyone needs to have their eyes on the road; front & behind and drive slowly; 10-15 mph, thank God they are okay.
