Former US Consul Pens Book On Fatherhood

June 17, 2012

Former US Consul to Bermuda Gregory W. Slayton has penned a book about fatherhood, with all proceeds to be donated to charity.

Mr Slayton said, “I grew up with an absentee father, and when I became a father myself, I determined not to follow that same path. I wrote this book for dads like me who are looking for ways to be better dads. Now with the book out only one week, we are getting feedback from mothers who are equally grateful for the lessons shared by dads around the world in this book I was honored to write.”

To underscore his commitment of strengthening families, Mr Slayton has committed to donate 100% of his book royalties to charity. In addition to this, Mr Slayton is making his book available to the Fellowship of Fathers Foundation, so they can offer a free book to any active duty military man requesting one through their military Chaplain.

Speaking about the book, former Governor of Florida Jeb Bush said, “Having been raised by a man who exemplified what it means to be a great father, I am blessed to have learned from one of the greatest. In Be a Better Dad Today! Gregory explains how to navigate the most important job in the world. This book is a great resource for today’s dads or those who plan to be a dad in the future.

United States Senator and former Presidential candidate John McCain said, “I learned about life and honor from my father and grandfather, who were my heroes as Naval officers and, most importantly, fathers. Earning their respect was the most lasting ambition of my life, and even though they are no longer with us, I continue to live my life according to the terms of their approval. Their courage and faith were an inspiration to me and a key to my survival in some of my most difficult times.

“I am grateful for the memories of these two great men and the respect and affection they provided as the patriarchs of our family. I’ve personally known Gregory and his family for years, and I know he exemplifies the title of his book Be a Better Dad Today! each and every day of his life. There are certain lessons in life that can best be taught by fathers. My hope is that this book will help every single man who picks it up to be the best father, the best husband, and the best man he can be.”

Bishop of the Diocese of Bermuda Robert Kurtz said, “The Catholic Church has emphasized the importance of fatherhood and families for 2,000 years. Good fathers are the servant leaders of their families – and we can all learn to be better servant leaders. It is no accident that Jesus taught us to pray to “our Father, who art in heaven…” It is God’s love and care for us as our heavenly Father that Christ Himself modeled for us all here on earth.

“In challenging and encouraging us to be the best men we can be, my friend Gregory Slayton does us a true service. For it is in service to our families, to our friends and to our communities that we grow to be stronger and more mature men. “Be a Better Dad Today: Ten Tools Every Father Needs” is an excellent book for every man who wants to be a better husband, a better father and a better man.”

Mr Slayton served in Bermuda from 2004 – 2009, and currently resides in New Hampshire with his wife of 23 years and their four children.
