Harbour Club Swimmers Compete in Florida
Fifteen swimmers from the Harbour Amateur Swimming Club participated at the T2 Aquatics Norris Foundation Long Course Meet in Naples, Florida recently returning home with a total of 13 Age Group Records, 80 top 8 finishes and a host of personal bests.
Leading the way for the Harbour team was 10 year old Emma Harvey who bettered 7 Age Group Records in the 50 and 100 meter Butterfly, 50 and 200 meter Backstroke, 50 and 200 meter Breaststroke and the 200 meter Individual Medley. Harvey paced her way with 5 first place and 2 second place finishes. Her Butterfly prowess, in particular, drew the eye of Paul Yetter, the head coach of the host club.
Ashley Irby, also 10, conducted her own assault on the record book as she took 4 Age Group records in the 100, 200 and 800 meter Freestyles and 100 meter Backstroke, she recorded 4 first place and 4 second place finishes. Her 800 Freestyle was undoubtedly her best event, dipping under the 11 minute mark with a fine swim of 10:56.18. In an event that was swum in an Open Age category, with a field of 23 swimmers featuring Olympian Katie Hoff as the top seed, she finished in 16th place.
Jude Moseley was Harbour’s top 10 year old boy as he broke his own 200 meter Breaststroke Age Group record by almost 30 seconds. Moseley’s performances saw him conclude with 6 first place finishes in the 50 and 100 meter Breaststroke, 50 and 100 meter Freestyle and the 50 and 100 meter Backstroke.
Tyler Smith, 13, set an Age Group Record in the 800 meter Freestyle along with top 8 finishes in 6 events.
Head coach Richard Goodwin said “This was an excellent trip for the club and I was especially pleased with the way in which these young swimmers tackled the long distance events, particularly those who had never previously been exposed to a long course, 50 meter pool. I would like to express my appreciation to the assistant coaches, Janice Irby and Shona Palmer, along with a special thanks to the team manager, Alison Harvey for all of their hard work and effort in making this trip such a success”.
The team consisted of Emma Harvey, Ashley Irby, Sophie Clare, Kerry Palmer, Lynsey Palmer, Alyssa Paynter, Lizzie Thresh, Alex Bordage, Yannick Hillier, Jude Moseley, Myles Packwood, Brittan Mosley, Alex Pilgrim, Alex McCallum, and Tyler Smith.
