Ministry To Hold Two eMonday Events In 2012
Minister of Economy, Trade and Industry Patrice Minors announced there will be two eMonday events this year. The first will take place on July 23rd just in time for Cup Match, and the second eMonday will be held on November 26th to coincide with Cyber Monday in the United States.
“eMonday was first launched in Nov 2010 in conjunction with the celebration of Global Entrepreneurship Week, as an online initiative aimed at encouraging residents to “Shop Local”. The goal of the eMonday initiative is to support and encourage the development of local e-commerce business in Bermuda.
“The Bermuda Economic Development Corporation’s participation in eMonday is in line with the mandate of the Ministry of Economy, Trade & Industry. This initiative helps to promote economic empowerment, workforce development and sustainable development, by encouraging entrepreneurship and innovation.
“Since its start in 2010, the participation in eMonday has grown. Due to the success of last year’s eMonday, it was decided that there will be two this year. The first will take place on July 23rd just in time for Cup Match. The second eMonday will be held on November 26th to coincide with Cyber Monday in the United States.
“We encourage all etailers to sign up to participate in both eMondays as it has proven to be a great way to promote ebusiness in Bermuda. We recognize the importance of developing and encouraging commerce in any form.
“Partnering with the Ministry of Business Development and Tourism’s Department of Ecommerce to deliver this worthy initiative is one way in which we are encouraging Bermudians to think outside the box.
“Business is no longer done as usual and online business is now a viable option for many would be entrepreneurs in Bermuda. There were over 30 etailers that participated in eMonday last year. I know that more and more business owners are going online, so I again encourage all etailers to sign up to participate in eMonday,”concluded Minister Minors.
