Photos: New Thrift Store Opens In St George’s

June 24, 2012

The ‘Dress For Success’ thrift store opened their doors for the first time yesterday [June 23], with shoppers stopping by the store’s location on Old Military Road in St. Georges.

CellOne partnered with the Centre Against Abuse to open the thrift store, which aims to assist men and women with obtaining affordable professional business attire in order to help gain entry into the work force.

The boutique is an extension of the programs already in place through the Centre Against Abuse. The charity has been providing support for victims of domestic abuse through counselling, 24 hour hotline and safe accommodation to both men and women since 1979.

“We are excited to be partnering with the Centre Against Abuse to get such a worthwhile project off the ground.”, said Frank Amaral, Chief Operating Officer of CellOne.

Maria Pereira, Rachael Rance and Julia Gibson of CellOne:

“The Centre Against Abuse thanks CellOne for the opportunity that we have in partnering with them on opening our second hand boutique. This second hand store will allow individuals to “Dress for Success” no matter their financial status”, said Laurie Shiell of the Centre Against Abuse.

A number of individuals and businesses in the community have been pulling together for some time now by donating clothing, services and materials including AS Coopers, Gibbons Company, BR & CT Trucking, Lindo’s Group of Companies, Mambo, Sousa’s Carpeting, The English Sports Shop, Signworx, Baptiste, Standard Hardware and Pembroke Paint.

If you are interested in donating new or gently used business attire to Dress for Success, please contact the Centre Against Abuse by email info@centreagainstabuse.bm or dial 292-4366.
