“Disturbance” In Dockyard Involving 15-20 People
A police investigation is underway after a “disturbance” involving 15 – 20 people early this morning [June 8] in Dockyard. Some of the people involved were visitors, and one man was arrested and released without charge.
The police said they have not received a formal complaint regarding this matter, and no weapons were used during the altercation.
A police spokesperson said, “At 3:15am on Friday, June 8th 2012, police officers were outside a popular Dockyard night spot when a disturbance took place in the street involving 15-20 persons. Some of those involved were visitors.
“As a result, additional police units were called to the scene. In the meantime, officers already at the location dispersed the combatants and made one arrest. After interview, that man was released without charge.
“At this time the Bermuda Police Service has not received a formal complaint regarding this matter. One male visitor was injured, but he did not require hospital treatment. There were no other injuries reported and no weapons were brandished.
“In line with our commitment to have additional resources in the Dockyard area during the summer period, the Bermuda Police Service will continue to monitor those levels and respond appropriately.
“An investigation into this incident is ongoing. Officers are interested in speaking with any person who may have footage or saw what happened in the Dockyard area around 3:15am Friday, June 8th. Anyone with any information is encouraged to contact the Somerset Criminal Investigation Unit on 234-1010 or the independent and confidential Crime Stoppers hotline on 800-8477.”
Respond appropriately????? They stood there and WATCHED!!! No weapons??? About 6 helmets got thrown at the foreigners head. These policemen are a joke and they need to stop picking sides. Wrong is wrong!

Police don’t get paid to get beat up. If they are outnumbered, then they observe and report and await backup. Obviously you were there with your detailed assesment of the activities going on, so why weren’t you trying to assist? You were probably busy on you BB the whole time or you were the one that was in it. If you want to do your part, then go to the police station and make a statement rather than moaning on here. Let’s all make bermuda better rather than maoning and complaining all the time.

FYI, Backup came once everyone was gone. it went on for about 20 minutes, i left after 30 and on my way home, i saw all the police going in the opposite direction.
Mind you, one involved ran off saying the police officer said to him “ya that guy knocked you out, you had reason to retalliate”. Now you tell me which side the policemen are on.

I’m not against you but in addition to your comment, this too is why we as a whole can’t conform and improve. In simple replies or vast conversations look at the tone in which most people speak. It takes alot to ignore stupidity/ignorance but it would certainly help if all would just ease up and not be quick to give harshness but rather respectful views..

Like I told the police. It started cause a girl(tourist) won a best butt contest and as she was leaving with friends to go back on the ship one of MOB idiots was trying to touch her behind. Might have been successful, I’m not sure. The huge guy that was with her(also off the ship) told them to back off and then they started to fight him. He probably didn’t make a complaint cause he was cutting ass until they came with helmets and started to get the upper hand. Why don’t Snorkel park stop them idiots from coming into snorkel park in the first place?

The locals didn’t start the fight. The cruise ship passengers were the thuggish aggressors. That’s why no locals got arrested because the cops watched it from start to finish. I just wanna know how come the police pepper sprayed the locals n not the tourists?
The Bermudians got pepper sprayed because they aren’t scared of the police and probably carried on like a.. Holes! And because they were the ones that started it! Bermuda needs to wake up and see that these tourists were and will be are bread and butter, once you make enough noise and get the ex-pats to leave what’s gonna be left? It didnt happen IN snorkel therefore them attending there shouldnt be a problem. Anyone couldve been standing outside waiting to attack, whether they attended snorkel first or not.
