Upcoming: New Beginnings Charity Golf Classic
The New Beginnings Golf Classic provides the opportunity to invest in Bermuda’s young people while enjoying a round of golf. The Tournament is open for golfers of all playing abilities and does not require a verified handicap.
All proceeds will go towards the New Beginnings $1 Million Campaign, which will fund education grants for at risk youth and funding the return of the Mirrors Community Programme for 19 – 24 year old males.
A spokesperson said, “Rather than defaulting to a typical golf fundraiser format, we really wanted to facilitate an opportunity where young people within the Mirrors programme and mature members of our community might have an opportunity to interact with each other directly, perhaps in a different and more productive manner than they might typically. Further, we intend to expand this opportunity each year as we grow the New Beginnings Golf Classic from strength to strength.
“To that end, the Golf Classic, to be held at the Fairmont Southampton Golf Club, will have four components:
1. 8AM and 1PM Captain’s Choice shotgun start
2. 9AM Youth Golf Clinic – The Afternoon Event is restricted to teams of three registered entrants as one Mirrors young person will be included per team after participating in the morning golf clinic.
3. 9pm Night Golf Captain’s Choice shotgun start (run on two 9-hole circuits)
“The idea is that once the 8am captain’s choice tournament gets underway, 20 – 25 young people who have participated in Mirrors will participate in a golf clinic that with provide them with the opportunity to work with the Fairmont Southampton Golf Professionals and learn the basics of the sport.
“Following that, they will each be placed on a team for the afternoon tournament. Not only will this give them the opportunity to put what they’ve learned into action and be more exposed to the game of golf; it will also provide an opportunity for the young people and adults alike, to meet and interact with each other directly in a positive way.”
