CURB Forum: ‘Do Blacks Play the Race Card?’

July 6, 2012

Citizens Uprooting Racism in Bermuda [CURB] will be hosting a dadiscussion entitled ‘Do Blacks Play the Race Card?’ on Wednesday 11th July 2012 from 7:00 – 9:00pm at the Leopards Club on the corner of Cedar Avenue & Brunswick Street. The facilitators will be Dr. Eva Hodgson and Mr. Cordell Riley.

A statement from CURB said, “For our White supporters discussions around the “Meaning of Whiteness” will begin the third week in July, time and date to be advised.

“We realize that many see themselves as of Mixed Race and we suggest you chose the group with which you self-identify the most. CURB is hoping to also have discussions in the Autumn for those of Mixed Race to address many of the concerns that are raised from that perspective.

“For those who may be concerned that we are separating the races, please know that much research has been done around the needs for People of Color and those of European descent to do this kind of work in separate places. This then sets the stage for both groups to later have meaningful and healing discussions together.”

  1. Expat who is leaving says:

    Yawn. Another soapbox for rabble-rousers.

  2. FYI says:

That whole r4elease is a load of BS.

“For our whites, do this. For the blacks – do this. For those that are neither – pick one and do what we say.”

Really? How is this moving forward?

  3. More with less says:

The question is bs in of itself. You can’t say blacks this or whites that ANYTHING!!! People are individuals and should be treated and judged as such. Some blacks play the race card and some don’t. Some whites are racists and some are not. Now what?

    • Steve Musicant says:

I agree 1,000% with “More with less”. The very question implies that “all” people of one sort do one thing or another. That pretty much defines stereotyping. So stupid.

    • Andrew Outerbridge says:

      well said

  4. Phillip Ray says:

Amazing how people get so critical, yet hide
behind pen names. If you’re not a part of the
    solution… you’re a part of the problem.

See you both on Wednesday evening!

  5. Family Man says:

Isn’t Wentworth Christopher going to make a presentation?

I thought he’d be the ideal candidate to speak since he’s ‘genetically predisposed’ to be an expert on the subject.

  6. Andrew Outerbridge says:

Glad to see others see the hypocracy of a group alleging to uproot racism!
