Governor Appoints Two Assistant Justices

July 31, 2012

Governor George Fergusson has appointed two Assistant Justices who will sit from time to time in civil and commercial cases over an initial period of one year.

A statement from Government House said: “The new Assistant Justices are John E Riihiluoma, an Appleby partner, and Narinder K Hargun, a Conyers, Dill and Pearman partner. They have both previously been appointed to act as Puisne Judges.

“Their selection will not only in the short term strengthen the resources of Bermuda’s Commercial Court and the civil jurisdiction as a whole.

“It is hoped that similar appointments on a regular basis will encourage senior practitioners to take up permanent judicial appointments in the future and consolidate the long the stability of Bermuda’s judiciary. The appointments carry nominal sitting fees.”
