Spirit’s Student Crew To Return From Haiti

July 21, 2012

On July 2nd, twenty seven of Bermuda’s youth embarked on a life changing journey to the Feed My Lambs Ministry Orphanage run by Bermudian, Phillip Rego, about 2 hours from Port au Prince, Haiti. About half of the group flew directly to Haiti on the 2nd, while the other half sailed on Spirit of Bermuda. On July 12th, the two groups switched places and return this weekend.

While at the orphanage, each group assisted with the construction of a 12-classroom school and clinic, helped in the all day task of washing orphans’ clothing and caring for the younger children, and taking food and clothes to residents living in the mountains. On Spirit of Bermuda, trainees experienced the Foundation’s Character Development Program where they were responsible for sailing around the clock, cleaning the ship and participating in the educational components taught by historian, Dr. Clarence Maxwell. When going to and from Bermuda, Spirit of Bermuda stopped in Turks & Caicos and enjoyed learning expeditions relevant to Bermuda’s history.

More of Bermuda’s youth should participate in these wonderful programmes! To really appreciate all we have in Bermuda, one must go abroad and see how others live that are much less fortunate than us.
