Fishing Boat Sinks, Two Men Assisted To Shore

August 24, 2012

[Updated] “At approximately 5:35pm today marine police were dispatched to a report of a 18 foot fishing boat that capsized just off Devonshire Bay,” a police spokesperson said.

“Two males aged 40 and 60 were assisted to the shore and both appear to be fine. In the abundance of caution both men were taken to KEMH where they are being treated for non-life threatening injures and the fishing boat was severely damaged and has sunk.

“Marine police are advising the maritime community to exercise caution when going out on the water as we are expecting very rough and unpredictable waters for the next few days.”

I’m glad you pulled through this Uncle! Next time check your shark oil. :)

  4. MAKE MY DAY says:

These guys must have sunk pretty close to shore where the heavy swells are – because further out, the sea looks quite calm to me – no “white-caps” in view!!!

I’ve been out 7/8 miles many times in calm seas like this over the years in an 18ft Boston Wailer, with no problems!

  5. PLP but not the Government says:

Praise the Lord for His mercy is never ending. An eye witness said that it was like watching a miracle take place to actually see a wave lift them up and put them right on shore. Wow what a blessing.

    • Ummmm says:

Why does god get the credit for saving them but not the blame for capsizing them in the first place?

  6. Triangle Drifter says:

Great photograph with the spray. Glad to see the guys are OK. Sorry to see a boat that had some old style character destroyed.

Devonshire Bay & Hungry Bay, which I am familiar with, are very dangerous especially when there is the smallest of swell. No place to have an engine failure or misjudge the water.

  7. Rene Hill says:

Thanks to everyone for their comments. My dad, Milton Hill and Abdul Smith who saved him are both well.

  8. Tricia says:

Big sigh of relief that my Bermuda dad, Milton Hill, is ok.
