Premier Sends Condolences To The Bahamas
Premier Paula Cox has sent condolences to the Government and people of the Bahamas following the sudden death of Bahamas Opposition Leader Charles Maynard who died last Tuesday at only 42 years old. Mr. Maynard visited Bermuda in April this year for the CARIFTA Games.
Mr. Maynard, a former Cabinet Minister in the Free National Movement which became the main Opposition party following general elections in May, died while campaigning for a candidate in a bye-election to fill a vacancy left by the resignation of former Prime Minister Hubert Ingraham.
The Premier expressed sincere condolences to the family, friends, political and professional colleagues of Mr. Maynard, saying, “His sudden passing in the prime of life is a terrible blow to all who knew him. It is our hope that his contribution to the well-being of the people of the Bahamas will long be remembered and remain as a monument to a life well-lived.”
Premier Cox said she was pleased to have met Mr. Maynard when he was recently in Bermuda on official business. “I was impressed by his passion and commitment as he cheered and supported the young Bahamians who were participating in CARIFTA,” she added.
An official funeral for Mr. Maynard will be held at 11:00 a.m. Friday August 24, 2012 at the Anglican Cathedral, Nassau.
