“Police would like to speak with anyone who may hav seen the incident to contact Marine Police on 295-0011 or the Confidential crime stoppers hotline on 800-8477.”

  1. Spider says:

The police were right there like everyone else. Why do they need more witnesses?

    • THINK ABOUT IT says:

Think about it for a minute. The answer should come to you . Oh what the heck…
0 witnesses = almost impossible to prosecute.
Police are only witnesses = still very difficult to prosecute.
20 different unrelated witnesses with similar stories that support the police officers story = much easier to prosecute.

      • Tommy Chong says:

WHATEVER! Police have prosecuted 100s of times over without any other evidence but their own & have been successful. Why do you think that in the majority of times reports of incidences never mention the specific gangs involved. You can’t figure out a pattern without seeing the whole picture can you?

    • Grammar lesson.... says:

Have the police not heard of a video camera???

    • andre says:

Two independent witness says BPS sat there and watched bottle throwers and an attempted drowning by Jet Ski but ONLY asked them to move on? Nonsense!

  2. bully preston says:

how come the police never say who are the gangs involved, the public need to know these things like everthing has to be hidden

    • Talk2mesr8t says:

Does it really matter?? Little hood rats are causing problems!! Plain and simple!!

      • Tommy Chong says:

Does when little hood rats are trying to become king rats by doing socially disruptive & detrimental things.

  3. big problem says:

i saw the police there right after all this went down and they were acting timid and unsure like they had reason to be afraid of the punks causing trouble the police are a bunch of wankers

    • Ohok says:

Exactly!! They themselves were scared too! Those involved should’ve been arrested right there and then!

I will not call in as a witness because how am I supposed to know I’ll be safe? Bermuda’s “witness protection” is a joke. Thye’d state your name and where you’re from in the newspaper, seen it done before.

      • Bermuda Girl says:

Call Crime Stoppers idiot! ….yet you call the police scared -____-

        • ABM says:

Have you ever called Crime Stoppers? I have and let me tell you that it is in no way confidential!

          • Plain Sailing says:

“To ensure the confidentiality of all calls to our 800-8477 (TIPS) or 1-800-623-8477 (TIPS) numbers, the calls are answered overseas by the Miami-Dade County Crime Stoppers in Miami, Florida, USA.”
            http://www.crimestoppers.bm

            • ABM says:

I know that, but if your calling to give a tip, then why must I provide my name, address, phone number, birth info and place of enployment???

            • Tommy Chong says:

The information still has to be relayed to BPS from Crime Stoppers & what type of guarantee is there that whoever its relayed to won’t run off their mouth. Also the majority of time a witness must go on the stand in order for information to stick in prosecution. Whenever have you known of a case where crime stopper information is used to prosecute. Why do you think informants have to leave the island once they talk talk about gang activity to the police?

          • Ohok says:

            Thank you!

  4. Peace says:

Convicted gang members should get automatic thirty years. No parole.

  5. Judgement says:

The Police where right there and watched. They clearly didn’t do their job and now want witnesses. Smdh

    • Jennifer says:

O for goodness sake! Do you hear yourselves?? The police watch and take note – I dont think they want to start something on the ocean – can you imagine what could have happened when you have a boat load of people (possibly armed and probably drunk or in a state of) – letting loose on the ocean – there were hundreds of people there enjoying themselves on their own personal crafts and the last thing you need is for a handful of police to approach a boat with probably a hundred people on board – fighting or worse shooting could have prevailed! Anyone who saw something – Man Up!! and do the right thing – that’s the problem with this island – and yes, Crime stoppers is confidential – Florida handles the calls -

      • Tommy Chong says:

“The police watch and take note” All this time I thought police served & protected. We might as well give them the title of secretary instead of officer if this is the case. So what if something more happened like gangsters start shooting would they just watch & take note still? No need to answer this rhetorical question because I know they will & have already in similar situations even ones involving assaults on tourist. Its ironic that the other day I heard the commissioner warn of anyone attempting to use a fake or real gun on an officer will have appropriate action taken against them. So you can get shot or tased for assaulting an officer but if its a civilian “The police watch and take note” GREAT!! So when will we be allowed to carry weapons to served & protect ourselves while the police stand by poking their noses.

Also crime stoppers IS confidential but IS the BPS?

      • Unbelievable says:

Well just tell that to the people that have called Crimestoppers in confidence and had the police show up at their homes, places of employment, out in public etc, threaten them with a law suit for obstruction if they don’t come in and give a full statement, and when they STILL refuse based on the information given to Crimestoppers being done so under “confidentiality” have had their full statement to Crimestoppers including their names, addresses, etc read out in court and have now either left the island or are being threatened on a daily basis by the rest of the gang!!!!
SHUT UP IF YOU DON’T KNOW WHAT THE HELL YOU ARE TALKING ABOUT!!!!

        • Think says:

You should take your own advice. You do not have to give those details. When they ask, all you have to say is I wish to remain anonymous. DUH!

          • tricks are for kids says:

@ Think……Once you tell someone else (whether you feel its confidential or not)..it’s no longer a secret

          • Unbelievable says:

Have you ever called crimestoppers? Whether you give your name or not, they still have your number, regardless of what they tell you. How do you think the police call you right back to verify the information?
            GO LAY DOWN!

  6. HeyBye says:

The courts should institute emergency passage of laws.
For gun and gang activity, there should be automatic minimum sentences added to the sentence for the crime committed.

  7. richard says:

we all know once parkside (they are the new fronline) involved everything gets funny police have a problem with this new and old gang. Here you have a gang that dose everything in the open just like there fathers from frontline. I know some of us really hate anybody from overseas but the only way to take these guys out is to take all bermuda police off the court and put all the overseas police out there and let them do what they came here for they have no friend and no family or old school mates working the block put the face of all members in there car see them on the street stand right next to them. As a condition most of these guys should not even be on court street most of them don’t even come from that area.

    • swing voter says:

yeah richard, that tactic worked well up to the mid-80s when the police service recruited 1/3 british, and 1/3 carib….now so many bermudians clogging the service up with usless people that only want the salary, not real cops. What they should do is get rid of the slugs and pay the expats more to do the dirty work that Bermudian cops are afraid to do. 10 fearless jamaican cops will clean up parkside over one weekend

      • Jennifer says:

the salary?? um hello – the police are soooooo underpaid its ridiculous!!

        • ABM says:

No they are not. They make over 75k per year. With overtime it shoots way upwards of that figure. That was info given to me from a cop!

  8. US Observer in Pink Sand says:

Richard – I think you have stated something that it correct. The island is so small that people are interelated via family members or friends. It would be great to see a task force come into Bermuda whom no one knows or has any connection to.

    Good point…

  9. Jackie says:

I thought the police were there and stopped the situation from getting out of hand. What exactly happened that they needed witnesses for?

    • mixitup says:

thats the question I’m asking.. And if the stopped it then they were there correct. Witnesses for exactly what?

  10. itsnot the FIRST says:

Go to America, get the guys from the show “COPS” and bring them here! They are NOT scared to run, jump arrest these f@#<ing a$$holes! Bermuda police are too scared and always come hours later and ask what happened… If the police where there why didn't the arrest them right there on site? Bottles thrown and all come on now. Its like they have a deal with parkside.

  11. iknowthetruth says:

    ….

  12. Triangle Drifter says:

Bermuda is not the only small community in the world. Thousands of other small towns (all the Bermuda really is) get along just fine with LEOs who grew up in those towns & are respected as LEOs as well as are able to carry out their jobs, which sometimes involve family members.

So, what is the problem with Bermuda? The howls from the PLP used to be that there were too many foreign police in the service. Now thepublic wants foreign LEOs. What do you really want? Make up your minds.

    Flip flop, flip dlop.

  13. Hmph says:

They want witnesses for????? To place and arrest? My boat was right next to this madness. The police had a few opportunities to make arrests. But instead they sat and watched and then had the nerve to escort the boat from Mangrove Bay to its destination. Like rly? Why are you protecting them wanksters?

    • mixitup says:

There were 10 “wansters” and 100″s of others on that boat who didn’t realize until too late that they were trapped on this boat with them. Maybe that’s who the police were protecting.

  14. PLP MUST GO says:

LOVE IT. BLACK ON BLACK VIOLENCE…………..KEEP KILLING ONE ANOTHER. AND I JUST LOVE THE FACT THAT THEY ARE NOW CHARGING TAXES. YOU VOTED THEM IN THIS IS HOW YOUR COUNTRY HAS BECOME ROFLMAO.

  15. Tommy Chong says:

When you have a bunch of idiots recklessly riding around on matching gang colour jetskis wearing matching gang colour clothing in plain view of BPS what more information is needed? What happened to the new gang laws & plans that were to be implemented by our new National Security task force? Didn’t they meet months ago & promised the public they had a plan?

    • Triangle Drifter says:

In the PLP Universe simply talking about doing something is the same as action.

Had enough yet? Get rid of the green gang on Parliament Hill.

      • Tommy Chong says:

Yes! Yes! I know about PLP’s empty promises but the national security task force is not just Wayne Perinchief now its also includes the commissioner, governor & regiment leader. I thought that by putting all these heads together something would be done & done in more of a timely manner. The governor has had his share already of working with law enforcement on curbing worse gang problems in New Zealand. Surely this experience has given the governor something to apply in a much smaller jurisdiction like ours.

  16. second says:

We seem to have missed the point !! Yes, BPS was there so were many others. Their job cannot be easy because they have to make some tough decisions on the spot – grab the idiots right there and then or delay and protect the majority that are there to enjoy themselves. They are witnesses yes and I’m sure they have videos, other people’s comments, etc., but the more info they get from others will make their job easier. It has nothing to do with them being afraid. They are dealing with idiots who have no respect for life ! Let’s be open minded.

  17. Missy says:

Is this a JOKE. The Police sat by and watched the incident “LITERALLY”. Now they want witnesses. Hmmmmm Why not arrest the parties involved at the time of the attack being that they where right there! Idiots!

  18. Bermuda Boy says:

Non Mariners. One more place we can no longer go without being subject to these wanksters. Bermuda is going down the toilet.

  19. Think says:

You all sound like complete idiots… “Why didn’t they arrest them then and there?” Well take a minute and actually use your brain. There were thousands around, the police go in to arrest these a**holes and suppose they try to pull a chase on a jet ski with thousands of innocent people in the water, or one of them pull out a gun and start firing. Someone could have been killed or seriously injured. The BPS have to make split second decisions and have to consider the greater good. Good thing they did intervene and did what they could to stop it from becoming a much larger, more serious situation.
I can not get over the amount of hypocrites and idiots this island has. THINK for once. So quick to accuse the BPS of doing nothing but the BPS can not be everywhere at every minute of every day. We as a people need to stand up and stop being scared. I don’t know about you, but I am not afraid of these punks. Its only going to get worse if people like the above still think like IDIOTS!

    • ABM says:

WTF?? Where you even there?? The police did just sit there and do nothing as this happened right in front of them.

      • Think says:

Yes I was there, did the BPS not make their presence known once the bottle throwing began and escort the boat from Mangrove Bay? :|

        • ABM says:

Only after the fact. It took them how long before they decided to do something? And they should have arrested these guys on the spot. The police had guns so whats the problem?

          • Think says:

Oh ya, start a shoot out. Great idea. They are probably only requesting witnesses in able to prosecute and have a solid case. The police already know who it was, it is now a matter of proving that to a jury and a judge.

            • ABM says:

Your point makes no sense as they have already prosecuted people island wide without any witneses.

              • Think says:

NO, you make no sense, because clearly you have no common sense. I am not saying they CANT prosecute without witnesses. I’m saying that having multiple witnesses makes the case that much more solid and more likely to have a guilty verdict.

    • Say it ain't so... says:

I 2nd this comment!! Truth be told….scared of these fools, really?
      Their day is coming….

WAKE UP BERMUDA and STAND FIRM against this Shyt! Seriously – scared of what?

      • ABM says:

All talk a good game, but when one of these guys points that gun right in your face, Im betting your balls will shrink to a miniscule size.

    • Frank Castle A.K.A. Tommy Chong says:

Your pull chase scenario is irrelevant because gang members were already ridding around recklessly at Non-Mariners on jetskis without chase. BPS saw this & did JACK ALL. The new law about gang congregation would have worked well in this case but for some reason is only enforced when it comes to M.@.B. not the other side & since they were instigating nada was done.

I’m not scared B.O.M. gangster wannabes from any side but in case you not aware of it there are vigilante laws that would see me in prison if I did what needs to be done. These freaks make $10,000 plus a week hustling crack & can afford a top notch lawyer to help them prosecute me for “Standing Up To Them” plus one side has enough connections to make sure they stay untouchable & they keep growing.

    • ABM says:

Im sorry, but the greater good??? Where was this greater good when they pushed their guns all up in wheelchair bound young man just for being in a yard that they were raiding? Answer me that question.

      • Think says:

Do you know what ‘greater good’ means? And if that did happen then the young should have filed a complaint and got compensation. But remember, there are always 2 sides to every story.

        • Think says:

          *young man

        • ABM says:

Do you know what it means? The greater good would have been to put a stop to this immediately! Not sit and watch and hope it dies out on its own. Or when its finally to late to do anything about it, escort the boat to town. Give me a break cause Im not buying what your selling.

  20. tourist says:

I was on the water and saw plenty of MOBs but no COPs. The cops I did see were on land and I hears someone ask him why none were on the water. He said they meaning the gangsters have to come on land at some point. WTF? Get in your police boats and show a strong presence in the water with guns too. You know it’s just going to get more and more dangerous over there. I couldn’t throw a bottle without hitting a gangster last Sunday and the cops need witnesses. Wow. Really?

  21. coonerybuffonery says:

The police should not be afraid of these little hoodlums. They are now armed and they should shoot them..plain and simple.

I think all police should be armed in bermuda and ready to shoot as required, even traffic cops!

  22. ECS says:

The police sat there and watched half of that madness happen! I know cause I saw it with my own eyes!!

  23. i gotta be me says:

this is another reason we need to get rid of conscription and have an all paid volunteer professional regiment with a marine division. they could ‘police’ these sorts of events. their presence alone would discourage this sort of behaviour. we could recruit at the high schools and maybe accept people who are even 17 with parental permission. house these youngsters on “base” and educate them. the pay scale would go up with every high school diploma, college course and other military accolades they acquire. we could hook up with marine divisions in the USA or UK like the coast guards and do exchange students. these young people need an alternative to gangs and part of that is supplying an alternative. new recruits would be housed on base and older recruits with wives/children could have a housing allowance for rent. after 20 or 25 years we would have productive members of our society who held honour and courage in their hearts in stead of hatred. we would have an educated workforce too who know how to show up on time and do an honest days work.

  24. Frank Castle A.K.A. Tommy Chong says:

@ Think Your pull chase scenario is irrelevant because gang members were already ridding around recklessly at Non-Mariners on jetskis without chase. BPS saw this & did JACK ALL. • Think says:

The new law about gang congregation would not have worked, they could have said that about every boat that was on the water that day! And how do you know it is only enforced on the M@B side? You don’t know that, so stop assuming. You only think it is only being enforced on the M@B side cause that’s what you read in the newspaper.
The BPS probably are working with these gangs, it is commonly practiced around the world.

So because they can afford a lawyer, you’re gonna let them sink this island and it’s potential. What happens when all the tourists don’t wanna come here anymore, when all the international companies leave? Where is the Government gonna get their money? US the people, which means cost of living goes up and payroll gets cut with higher tax.

And yes I am aware of the vigilante laws, you don’t need to take matters into your own hands, that is what the police are for. And if nothing is done to your satisfaction, keep calling and complaining! That’s how the gang congregation law came about, the residents kept calling to speak up and demand action.

  25. big problem says:

could this be the fruits of the PLP knowing all the social short comings and promised to correct them then when they got in power they kicked shyte at the mention of a drug test for collecting hundred thou a year of our money but profess to be serious about drugs and crime—–lets see if the thugs are less than 20 yrs old they and came out of a school system that left those with the most needs with the less attention and hence a undereducated youth roam our streets with poor grammmer very little soft skills and at a disadvantage in this tech based economy—-are these childrens mothers uncles and granny those who used to work in a service industry like hotel and developed very little business education so hotel was their bread and butter for decades and it has dried up like the grass during a drought—–so what about the promise of building hotels that would have put all these families that have no formal education to work what about the promise to raise our standards of teaching and learning to our youth to make them a viable option to employers what about the fact that MPs fail to realize they have a resposibility to answer the questions put forward by the people who pay you us the taxpayers and not feel you can do what you feel when you feel and you dont have to answer to nobody(seems like the same attitude the young punks have)———i could go on and on about how the people who promised to save us from the white masters have made us worse then before!!! well we know for certian they where so busy stuffing their pockets and the pockets of friends and family they didnt even want to acknowledge we had gangs until yesterday (pun intended)and some of their own children and close relatives are the gang bangers at least we know the PLP have done a excellent job ignoring the obvious—PLP NO MATTER WHICH WAY YOU TURN IT ITS ALWAYS THE SAME CRAP—-i am feeling more let down everyday like a fun castle at the completion of a kids birthday party

  26. Joonya says:

We are in this situation because of mentalities which expect the police to solve everything. Why cant these F@#kers just behave themselves jut like everybody else? Something else being ruined by idiots…

  27. Beauty says:

An I feel the more we entertain them with all the comments it makes them feel important. It is the New World Order, these are the times new technology, new way of life, If you notice ever since BB, Facebook, etc has come into place this crap has started. So why keep on blaming PLP, UBP. You need to blame the people in the public who entertain this crap. Because to me there are no Gangs. I just see a bunch of individuals looking for attention and as long as we keep on labelling them as different gangs this will never end. An who is to say that they like to be called that anyway. So it starts with the media and the people on a whole stop entertaining the gossip and check things out for yourselves before you just go off of hear say. I understand how we feel about the problem but I bet you any money stop talking about it on the web and we may see a change. Like I said may see a change because all you the public are doing is showing that you are in fear and you should not be living like that at all.

  29. blockade runner says:

legalize all drugs and make them so cheap the gangs cant make any money. arm the public so we can stand up for ourselves, or at least defend ourselves from armed robberies and home invasions. as it is only the criminals have guns. these gangs stalk us and rob us, and almost noone with any experience of the bps trusts the police anyway. the police are in the business of criminalizing bermudians, and most non gangbanger bermudians wont help the police in any way ever ever never. the police state we have created has created many gangs and made them really rich, and enabled them to permeate the government and institutions of bermuda at every level. we can only lose the war on drugs, it cannot be won. the government must surrender or this will certainly continue and get worse if the economy continues to decline. hoist the white flag plp and you scumbags might win another election

  30. Really says:
