BPS Appeal For Witnesses To “Water-Side Melee”

August 1, 2016

Police are appealing for the public’s assistance in identifying anyone who may have been involved with the “water-side melee at Mangrove Bay” yesterday, which resulted in at least two people being taken to hospital for treatment of injuries, and one person being arrested.

A police spokesperson said, “The Bermuda Police Service is seeking the public’s assistance in identifying anyone who may have been involved with the melee that took place yesterday in the waters off of Mangrove Bay in Sandys.

“Reports suggest that at 5:20pm, Marine Police responded to a report of a water-side melee at Mangrove Bay. Upon police arrival, it appears that males in the water became combative towards each other throwing bottles and other projectiles.

“During that time, a male was stabbed and subsequently taken via a marine vessel to Watford Bridge where he later was transported to the King Edward Memorial Hospital. Also injured was an 18 year old female that was treated by EMT’s for non-life threatening injuries.

“Police arrested a male in connection with this incident and we are appealing for witnesses or anyone who may know the identity of the individuals involved or who may be in possession of cell-phone footage of the incident to contact Sergeant Clifford Roberts, Jr. on 295-0011.”

A bunch of rich kids were out all day drinking on their boats, and started arguing about who was next on the waterslide. This being Bermuda, it ended in violence and stabbing. That’s basically the story, as far as I can tell.

The incident took place water-side not on a waterslide. However, I do believe that there are more and more of these out of control events. Sadly it appears to be the norm. You have to wonder if folks are unable to have any fun without being inebriated. I was appalled at cup match to see the vast number of young people so drunk or otherwise. It goes way beyond social drinking. I only wonder how they got home, surely not on the bikes that they got off of when they arrived.
