Argus Sponsoring 5K CORE Family Fun Walk

September 25, 2012

The Argus Group has joined forces with Bermuda Heart Foundation to sponsor its new 5K CORE Family Fun Walk, which is designed to raise awareness of heart healthy living and the CORE Heart Health Center.

The first annual event will take place on Sunday, September 30, starting at 9am at City Hall Car Park following a marshalled route. Those who wish to participate have until 4pm this Friday [Sept 28] to register online at www.racedayworld.com.

There is a $25 entry fee for youths and adults, but those aged 12 years and under can enter at no charge. Giveaways for the first 400 people to register can be collected on Saturday between 10am and 1pm at CORE, 87 Front Street [enter via Chancery Lane].

Group registration is also available and prizes will be presented for the largest company/local organisation and school group.

Sionna Barton, Marketing & Development Manager, Bermuda Heart Foundation, says: “A Family Fun Walk is an appropriate way for us to get the message out to the public about taking care of their hearts as walking is a great form of aerobic exercise for strengthening your heart, alongside a whole host of health benefits.

“The CORE Heart Health Center was launched to offer critical intervention and educational programmes for those at risk of heart disease or recovering from a heart attack, cardiac surgery or stroke. Its services include customised exercise and nutritional plan development, healthy cooking classes and support groups. We are grateful to Argus for helping us to make this event a reality.”

Alison Hill, Chief Executive Officer of the Argus Group, says: “Heart disease is the cause of one in every two deaths in Bermuda. Heart health is an important issue that we at Argus want to raise awareness of and the CORE 5k Family Fun Walk is a fun way of doing so. We have been a long time supporter of the Bermuda Heart Foundation, having been a founding sponsor of its CORE center, the island’s first cardiac prevention and rehabilitation facility, when it launched in 2011.

“We also want to support Bermuda Heart Foundation in making more people aware of its CORE center. As a leading health insurance provider in Bermuda, we fully endorse the power of preventative health care and hope that this new event will encourage people to look after themselves and make healthy lifestyle choices.”

Argus also has an ongoing partnership with the Bermuda Heart Foundation with its ‘Jump 2b Fit’ programme, which encourages people to get into jumping rope as a means of getting fit, having fun and looking after their heart health.
