Bailey’s Bay Retain Eastern County Cup

The last game of the Eastern Counties was played yesterday [Sept 1] at the Sea Breeze Oval. Bailey’s Bay won the toss and sent Cleveland to bat.

Cleveland scored 248/8 before declaring with Dion Stovell the top scorer with 121 and Micheal Paynter adding 39. Kyle Hodsoll was the pick of the Bailey’s Bay bowlers with figures of 15.2-1-66-3.

Bailey’s Bay scored 176/5 in reply. Rodney Trott was their top scorer with 68 before cramp forced him to retire with two balls remaining. Lavar Talbot was the pick of the Cleveland County bowlers with figures of 11-1-47-2. Final Score: Cleveland County 248/8 Declared Bailey’s Bay 176/5

    I do not undersand how Bailey’s Bay retained the cup in this match or the Flatts. Cleveland and Flatts each scored more runs than Bailey’s Bay, so how could they win. This seems a setup to me in that Bailey’s Bay will always retain the cup, therfore, why play?

    It’s not a 50 over match. More of a one day test match like cup match is a 2 day test match, meaning open cricket…..
