One Person Arrested: Lorenzo Stovell Murder
A 24-year-old Sandys parish resident was arrested this evening [Sept 24] in connection with the murder of Lorenzo Stovell.
The suspect’s gender was not released, with the police statement referring to the person as a “resident” and “subject.”
Mr Stovell was murdered last night while sitting outside Woody’s in Sandys. He and several female friends were on a “party bus” when they stopped at Woody’s.
Mr Stovell — who was partially paralyzed due to a previous shooting and used a wheelchair — remained on the bus while his friends went inside to drink, and after about an hour the suspect[s] approached the bus and fatally shot him, escaping on a motorcycle.

The Bermuda Police Service has taken a 24 year old Sandys Parish resident into custody in relation to the murder of Lorenzo Stovell. The subject was arrested early this evening by officers from our Armed Response Units.
Investigations are continuing as we continue to progress the evidence in this case. We will continue to keep the public updated on the progress of this case, and urge anyone with information to come forward to assist in bring the offender(s) to justice.

@smh: Sorry, but that’s a cop-out. I am so sick of the excuses. A small child instinctively knows right from wrong. As an adult, even with lack of guidance we all know right from wrong and we all definitely know murder is wrong. People like you keep making excuses for these guys and then look for sympathy when they end up dead.

I smell a set up from one of the party girls, they left a partially paralyzed person for an hour at least while the drank, check all their phone records as well as the driver…and for the police to not disclose the sex of the person arrested makes me believe it was a female because they normally say a 24 yr old man from Sandys was arrested…..someone will squeal and hopefully justice will be rightfully served….

Anyone can be arrested and interviewed; it’s a different matter to charge a person for the crime. Police need sufficient evidence to charge and Prosecutors needs even more to prosecute the person in a court of law.

Sir John Swan was criticized many years ago for trying to get the country to pay attention in the 1990′s when he predicted a rise in violent crime amongst young black men.
And now I am certain that people are apologizing to him for not recognizing it sooner.
The problem IS solely within the black community. We can’t place the blame on anyone else except ourselves!
I don’t see or hear of too many white or Portuguese Bermudians involved in gang activity. I am not saying that it does not exist, I’m sure it does..but every day we hear of some criminal activity involving black males and also an alarming number of females.
The black Bermudian commmunity is in serious trouble and a lot of the problems are self inflicted.
Parents have become enablers to their children, men are rewarded for ‘bad behaviour,’ and young women have become ‘receptacles,’ for sperm donors.
These are harsh comments to make, but until we face the truth, then nothing will change.
Although, I did not know the deceased, I send out my condolences to his family and friends.
Unfortunately, the violence will continue until we realize there is a much deeper root cause of our problems in the black community in Bermuda.

My thoughts and sympathy truly goes out to Lorenzo’s family and friends but as I read through all the comments and read through the article, i have a few questions; why would you leave a partially paralyzed man in a wheel chair on a bus for an hour by himself or with a mini bus driver while a bunch of you wh*res drink and flirt with guys for the night? What the heck was he doing up there in the first place? And did anyone decide to check up on him? Come on now, sister? cousins? friends? Really? You left him on a bus in an area known to every single one of the females on the bus as a restricted area because of where they come from! To do what? Drink and flirt with the enemy? And the young lady who had the bus represented “town” with a passion but secretly messed with country guys, huh? Seriously? And half the females on that bus who are “die hard town” mess with country boys who are “gang related” and knew full well that having Lorenzo up there would cause conflict whether he was apart of the war or not! Police need to check their phones cuz to my understanding, many of them hit “the country guys” up to let them know they were up there at woody’s drinking. Lets not talk about the young lady who had the bus, she’s got “instagram” and “bbm” pictures floating around blastin her bus and you can see that Lorenzo was in multiple pictures. So lets say im a country guy and a town girl hits me up to say she’s in the area. I check out the scene and most times, i’ll ask who came on the bus AND most times, the dumb lil girls would spill the beans and name Lorenzo. So if i was the “big boss” i would call my lil n$%#az and handle that. His on the bus by himself? Sure, why not? Smh. —- I’ve heard how many of you take care of him on a day to day basis, so when the bus came town to pick up a few more friends why didnt you drop him home before you went country? I swear if that was my brother or cousin, he woulda been home safe in his bed especially being “partially paralyzed” dont you think? Word is that half the ladies on that bus feel guilty cause they knew right from wrong, war or not, that guy shouldnt have been on that bus! And yes he does have a mind of his own but it takes positive and great guidance to show someone that he shouldnt have been there and home was safe and better off for him. You didnt take him up there to drink or mingle, he sat on a bus for a hour while you all drank and flirted so what was the purpose? It truly feels like a set-up to me! That guy didnt deserve to die and not like that! And i do realize that his family has been through a lot, but whose family hasnt? That decision was pure senseless and i hope the ladies on that bus toss and turn each and every night cuz a young mans life is gone because of your selfish alcoholic obssesion.
