Rachel Brown To Release ‘Building Castles’ EP

September 14, 2012

Rachel Brown — who is half Ethiopian and half Bermudian — will be releasing her “Building Castles” EP on Tuesday, September 18th via iTunes.

The self-taught musician was born and raised in New York, but first made her musical mark here on the island a few years ago with a series of appearances at Chewstick, Beachfest and the Bermuda Music Festival.

With no formal musical training, Ms Brown found her voice organically. “My songwriting process—which started when I was 19 – consisted of grabbing my guitar and learning how to play it while I wrote these songs,” says Ms Brown. “I just played until it sounded right.”

She was the 2010 recipient of the ASCAP Foundation Robert Allen Award for songwriting as well as a 2011 recipient of the Songwriter’s Hall of Fame Abe Olman Award for Excellence in Songwriting.
