Video Set #2: 2012 Annual Gombey Festival

The tennis courts were cleared of nets at the W. E. R. Joell Tennis Stadium on Saturday [Sept 22], as the Department of Community and Cultural Affairs hosted the annual Gombey Festival.

Designed to showcase one of the island’s most iconic traditions, local groups participating included the H & H Gombeys, Places New Generation Gombeys, Warner Gombeys, Warwick Gombeys, Roots Gombeys and Gombey Warriors. This years event also included a pair of visiting stilt-walkers or “Mock-a-Jumbie” dancers from St. Kitts.

Vendors were setup just outside the stadium building offering food, mini-donuts, refreshments, ice-cream, toys and Gombey souvenirs to the crowds, while inside the entertainment was introduced by Gary Phillips, the MC for the night.
