19-Year-Old Admits Stealing Honda Scoopy
Alwyn Jennings, 19, must return to Magistrates Court on 16th January 2013 to be sentenced after pleaded guilty to the offence of taking a motor bike without the owner’s permission.
The facts read out to the Senior Magistrate were that on 30th October 2012, a taxi-driver who lived in St Davids came home and found his Honda Scoopy missing. He reported the bike as missing and started his own quick search and drive around.
On Kindley Field Road, he spotted his bike being ridden by someone. He informed Police of all that he had seen. Subsequent follow-up action saw the bike’s lawful owner discover the bike parked in a short-term parking bay at LFW Airport with the ignition wires hanging loose.
Police were directed to a car that was leaving the area. Police stopped the car and found Mr Jennings lying on the floor in the rear passenger section. He was taken to Hamilton Police Station where he was questioned. During questioning, he admitted taking the cycle.
When Senior Magistrate Archie Warner asked if he had anything to say, Mr Jennings replied: “I’m sorry. I made a silly decision and I am taking full responsibility for my actions.”
Duty Counsel Ms Oonagh Vaucrosson told the Senior Magistrate that Mr Jennings was only 19 and hoped to go off to college overseas in 2013. Magistrate Warner ordered a Social Inquiry Report and directed that Mr Jennings should return for sentencing on 16 January 2013. Mr Jennings was granted bail of $2,000 with one Surety.
