David Cox Refuses To Appear Via Video Link
This morning’s [Dec 3] Supreme Court Monthly Arraignment Session did not go off problem free, with one defendant refusing to appear via video link.
The Court heard that David Jahwell Cox [pictured] refused to leave his prison cell to go to the room where defendants appear on video link.
Another defendant seemed more than happy to appear on the video link, which is shown on the Supreme Court’s flat screen TV.
Sahkai Weeks entered the video-link room and waved to the Judge, inquired after the Judge’s health, asked if he’d had a good weekend, and then complained about the conditions at Westgate.
After hearing that his sentencing would be delayed because the Psychological Report and Social Inquiry Report that had been ordered were not yet ready, Weeks was given a new mention date in 7th January 2013.
Before he left the room and on his way out, waving as he did so, Weeks told the Judge: “Always a pleasure. Keep up the good work. Please try and stay out of trouble. You’re only doing your job.”

How does he have a choice not to come out of his cell, he is a prisoner for goodness sake, he has NO say whatsoever.
In the States they just fill the cell with pepper spray…works every time.

Not only in Bermuda. We sometimes have prisoners decline our invitation to appear in court in the uk too. Just as frustrating!!

How does someone in jail refuse something? Handcuff his hands and feet and carry his ass to the room where the video chat is located. This is ridiculous. Now he needs more time automatically added to his sentence.

Wow. I didn’t know that inmates had the power of choice in jail, or freedom to determine whether or not they wish to leave their cell. Obviously something is seriously wrong with this picture.
Where is the discipline? The commissioner of prisons needs to be held accountable for this waste of tax payers time and money.

You have got to be kidding me when you have a prisoner running the prison system. The judicial system – prison system and GOVT are the biggest joke of all times. The scary part is that the Prison Guards are AFRAID of this clown and they allowed it to happen. And I can guarantee that nothing happens with this. No reprimand, no nothing… He will probably extra jello tonite.

Hey, who knows what his reasons are. Maybe he was told by someone inside to sit in his cell & take his time like a good boy. Must not be that comfortable for him to be in a prison full of those who supposedly are running the wanksta world in Bermuda now especially when convicted of killing their leader. You can try to be as alpha as you want but when thrown in a cage with others who are capable of being the top dog its probably best to put a muzzle on your bark. Wankstas are just pawns doing dirty work for others & no matter how tough they may seem they are the weakest piece in the game that takes the fall for the stronger pieces. Maybe if someone showed these dumba$$ young wanksta wannabes that this pawn life will be their life forever unless they get out of it soon they might have a change of mind since I’m sure they all live in the delusion that they will someday be the king when really they are just another humpty dumpty like cox.

First of all an inmate does have rights to leave or not to leave their room that’s y they didn’t fill his room w/ peppr spray for an example(rollingeyes)/ same way how they dnt hve 2 come to visits! they send out d pass then dnt show/ & he didn’t cum out his room bcuz he has his reasons which is none of our business that’s y it was published!! It is beyond me how many people come on Bernews and make the comments they make! My humble question to you all is when these same people were growing up and wanted guidance what did you do to assist! When these same children were at your house acting the fool what did you do to all of you who may say I corrected my humble suggestion to you was correction wasn’t the only thing that child needed! They perhaps needed nurturing and love and nurturing as well! Yes it may not have been your soul responsibility to raise that child but your love support and guidance would have made a difference – it takes a village to raise a child they say so I ask all of you are you not apart of the village that should assist in raising our children! Growing up I could remember teachers who cared enough about each individual child that they did know and did care enough to pull you aside talk to you and guess what show you some loving. However when we moved on from one school to another the loving and support that was once given was gone and teachers actually were belittling children calling them dumb, dopey, loser and informing and then constantly reminding them that they would never be nothing. So I ask you if you are not shown love and support, nurture and guidance and home or at school or from the “stronger” adults in your neighbor then where do you expect our young people to gain the skills they need to be of value! I also challenge you to ask yourselves how often have you said or done things in the eyes of children that you shouldn’t have done or said things about leadership or people in power in front of young minds who are eager to be grown! Your behavior, your words and your example have helped to shape our community into what it is today! Many come in Bernews pointing the blame and are quick to say not my – how incorrect of you to say because by default the thugs are yours they are a reflection of the things you did as didn’t do the things you said and didn’t say my humble suggestion would be to all of you who come on here to vent, blame or do anything else negative next time before you post ask yourself what have you done lately to help assist other young people growing up in these times who need your guidance, love and support! Yes, I have and still do volunteer at youth groups, youth centers, brownies and when I can I take the neighborhood kids for a drive and talk with them and you would be surprised the things the children say. The simply things they are needing in their lives! Not all children want money or material things, many are looking for the simplicity in life of love and nurturing and the desire to feel wanted! So to all of you stop with your negative vibes on here because guess what some of our young people are reading your comments and comments like they should die, we should put them on an island and let them shoot themselves or name calling are all acts of condoning the negative behavior taking place on our island just in a different t manner. The hearts of humanity is black and we have forgotten the true meaning of community! I urge all of you to stop and look at your lives and ask what did you do to help society to be what it is today! Whether it be by helping or not helping by default you still assisted because we are all apart of the problem and the solution!
