OBA & PLP On Candidates Interest Declarations

December 14, 2012

PLP Chairman Anthony Santucci today challenged the OBA for what he said was a lack of transparency in not publishing a declaration of its candidates’ interests in government contracts as required by law, while the OBA said they were not surprised the PLP were “desperate to cast the OBA in the worst possible light before polling day.”

Mr. Santucci said: “We are gravely concerned that the OBA has not acted as the law requires and published its members’interests in a local newspaper.

“They have spoken often about transparency and openness yet have failed to show this in a fundamental requirement before the election. More importantly, any candidate who has not declared an interest in any government contract is automatically disqualified as a candidate.”

The PLP chairman went on to point out that the PLP ran its ad declaring its members’ interests on December 5, and has done so in previous elections. He said in 2007, the UBP declared interests for 16 of their candidates, many of whom are still candidates for the OBA.

Mr Santucci said the PLP is “aware of at least one OBA candidate who, under this term of the Bermuda Constitution, should now be disqualified as a candidate.”

The PLP chairman said that in 2007 Bob Richards [then a UBP candidate] declared his interest in Government contracts. Mr Santucci said:  ”In his 2007 declaration, Mr. Richards noted that he was, ‘Director and Qualified Shareholder of BITS Ltd.’

“Mr. Richards is still listed as President and is a shareholder of Bermuda Information Technology Services Limited in his Declaration of Interest that can be found online at parliament.bm.

“Based on this evidence it is puzzling that Mr. Richards and the OBA feel that this information should not be published as the law of Bermuda requires, especially given that we understand that this company still has contracts with the Bermuda Government.

“In that same UBP declaration in 2007, Mr. Jeff Sousa declared his interest as ‘President and Qualifying shareholder in Sousa’s Landscape Management Company Limited’. We also understand that Mr. Sousa’s company still has a contract with the Government of Bermuda.”

Mr. Santucci added: “Has something changed since 2007 and if not, what does Mr. Richards, Mr. Sousa and the OBA have to hide? The constitution of Bermuda is clear on the legal obligations for transparency of Parliamentary candidates…”

“We call on the OBA to come out of the shadows and stop hiding,” said Mr Santucci. “Tell the people of Bermuda when Mr. Richards’ interest in the multi-million dollar government contract ended. Bermudians have a right to know.”

OBA Chairman said Thad Hollis replied, saying: “We’re not surprised that Mr. Santucci and the PLP are desperate to cast the One Bermuda Alliance in the worst possible light before polling day, in this instance over whether candidates declared interests in Government contracts as required by law.

“Under the Legislature (Qualification and Disqualification) Act, One Bermuda Alliance candidates have confirmed to the Party that they have no interests to declare.

“More specifically, in light of continuing attacks by Mr. Santucci and his colleagues, Mr. E.T. (Bob) Richards has taken advice from senior legal counsel and his opinion is that Mr. Richards is clearly not disqualified and that the Parliamentary Registrar has no authority to declare him or any other candidate disqualified. Candidate Mr. Jeff Sousa has also taken legal advice and he has confirmed he has no interest to declare.

“The continuing PLP campaign of distortion, lies and spin is a desperate attempt to distract voters from the real issues facing Bermuda. It is telling these attacks came the same day that Anchor Investment Management’s Bermuda Economic Update warned of a potential Bermuda “debt crisis”.

“The One Bermuda Alliance will not be sidetracked from our mission to build a Bermuda based on social and economic equity for all, leaving no one behind, with good-paying jobs, safe neighbourhoods, great schools and making Bermuda affordable,” Mr Hollis concluded.

Wow! Such a desperate attempt by the PLP!

    • Black Soil says:

A vote for PLP is a vote towards nowhere.

      • Nitty Gritty says:

At 18 to 18 we the people are still going to demand forensic audits and some serious looksee! Better start tidying up your mess! Soon come as they say. We will look at the BLDC a little closer too, see what actually went on there.

        • George says:

At 18 OBA 18 PLP(unlikely to happen cause at least one independent will be elected) the PLP will be asked to form the Government regardless of the popular vote!

For the Governor(constitution) the decision is about continuance of Government not who is most popular.

Even at 16 PLP 18 OBA 2 independents the PLP will be the first to be asked to form the Government using the two independents. If they can’t do this because they don’t have the support of the independents then the OBA will be asked.

The system of Democracy we have is highly flawed! Time to change the system!

            • Blurt says:

Dredd the PLP minister is up to his propaganda nonsense again. I think we can all see through the PLP lies..so sad, so sad. PLP is looking to make us all poor. We are poorer as a country day by day as the debt increases and the money for the interest leaves the island. country is being run like a third world dictatorship. Haiti is not too far away in our future if the PLP get in. . The PLP ministers are living it up on other peoples (your) money.

Go look it up haiti grew their GDP by over 5% in 2011, Bermuda was -2.8%. They out performed us’

I’d actually be flattered by your paranoia induced mistaken estimation of me as a PLP government official if I didn’t know that I am conversing with an asininus. In the interest of satiating my personal penchant for exposing the underlying racist swineheadedness in the comments of your ilk, might I draw attention to the parallel you drew between Bermuda under Black governance and THE most impoverished black country in the western hemisphere? Your message is loud and clear. You have a severe illness of the conscience which compels you to highlight the worst possible examples of black leadership or predominantly black society. You could have chosen any eastern European impoverished nation but that would be too much of an agent to the cognitive dissonance you are badly in need of. I’d need to write a book to outline all the many racist nuances in your comment but suffice it to say that you lifted your skirt and we can see precisely which orifice you are “Blurt”ing out of.

      • Cross+Roads says:

@status- As should the entire PLP after Monday !

        • Come Correct says:

Know dat! That’s why they’re runnin scared. Good thing they passed that “good governance” legislation that stops them from being charged after 3 years after the fact. They know now more than ever they have a chance to lose, cleay they thought voters were dumber than they are. Nothing is more satisfying than watching arrogance be torn down…Monday night I may be satisfied.

    • OBA is the new UBP says:

BLAH BLAH BLAH stop using blacks to win the War. Nothing has changed you call the PLP racist and the UBP/OBA doesn’t even have the B@LLS to put a white leader in charge. 14 years later you people are still using blacks as poster front line as candidates. Every black man and woman on this island can see right through the BS? Keep it real or you will continue to fail every election.

Stop using blacks surrogates as you call us, I’m the 75%+ black vote that you will not get on Dec 17th.

      • Balanced Facts says:

Maybe make yourself useful and help with shredding documents…blah blah blah…just keeping it real…maybe you’ll have the B@LLS to elect a white Opposition Leader…just keeping it real, again.

      • Norm says:

I figure oba wont win cuz of ppl who base their votes on race. Guess what. I dont care. Im moving somewhere where ppl vote with intellect and the color of my skin doesnt matter. Smdh…have fun with ur debt bully!

        • Judge Dredd says:

You mean like how pretty much 100% of white voters always vote for the white party?

          • Come Correct says:

Why would “white people” vote for a party that outwardly expresses hatred towards them? That’s like me chillin on a daily with a bunch of people that don’t like me, express their dislike and I still chill. Don’t make stupid comparisons. I’ve said before anything born of hate will eventually self-destruct, pure and righteous intentions will always prevail, Monday will tell me if I’m right.

P.s. Why has your face changed? That’s not the usual Judge Dredd face and there’s only 2 explainations for it… Better question is why is it all the plp supporters faces change but yet people like Verbal Kint, Argosy, Swing Voter, Terry, Tommy Chong, Blurt, plus myself and more have all remained the same since I started commenting at the begining of this year?

P.p.s. I know the reason, I’m just trying to see if others will put the pieces together. Sorry I’m a Virgo, I have a close attention to detail, I analyze everything, its my blessing and my curse.

            • ubpOBA is at it's Cross Roads again says:

The real question is why would black people vote for a party that just tries to use us for their own power needs. That’s like me going back to yes Master No Master I’m sorry Master. I will not run away again. Please Master.

            • Judge Dredd says:

I understand why you see a call for political, educational, economical, and cultural equality as “hatred” towards whites. You are one of those most unfortunate ones who have identified white superiority with being white. Hence, you confuse righteous indignation toward economic and political hegemony based on race as “hatred” toward a race. Are you really so dishonourable as to deny the political and economic hegemony of the white electorate which they’ve enjoyed and do not wish to be enjoyed by anyone else? The PLP doesn’t speak hatred, its simply the fact that you hate what they speak, because it threatens what you have come to identify as your identity. Let go of that false identity and you will have opened your heart to your true identity, which is human just like the rest of us. Stop biting your finger tips in rage at black leadership and show that you are not racist and can support black leaders as well as white. This would be a miracle because whites NEVER EVER…………EVER supported the PLP so don’t twist it to make out seem like your decision is based on their governance. You didn’t vote for them in or before 1998 and you never will and we all know why. They have done beautiful things for this country and quite frankly YOUR racist smear campaign which began on the heels of the 1998 election leaves a disgusting taste in everyone’s mouth.
As for your paranoid “face changing” comment, I can only charitably offer to you that I believe your face will change if you use a different computer or different location, which happens when you can’t sit on your @$$ at home all day like some Ppl and actually use different internet access points. Other than that maybe Bernews can explain. But I think you more rightly aught to direct your “face changing” suspicions to the UBP oops err I mean ABC doh my bad I mean OBA their “black surrogate” face chicanery. It should be OBC the only Bermudian chameleon

              • Come Correct says:

You typed all that stupidity for nothing and the faves don’t change with the device you use, I’ve used 4 computers and a smart phone and my face hasn’t changed one. I can change Come Correct and the face remains the same, so try that again paid plp consultant.

              • Blurt says:

Bermuda will not succeed unless we work together. PLP are trying to divide us. OBA are bringingbus together……united we stand divided we fall.

              • Paid Bloggers are Idiots says:

Maybe you lot will figure it out one day, not before tomorrow though.

              • Pastor Syl Hayward says:

@ Judge Dredd: You talk about educational equity. Did you see that we have a 72% FAIL rate with GCSEs? That included 92% FAIL at Maths!! The PLP complained about public education when they were elected in 1998. 14 years later and $250 million spent, by THEIR reckoning, and we are worse off than ever! 14 years is a whole generation of students, from 4 to 18, that have been graduated without being able to read, write and figure well enough to compete in an international exam. What kind of economic equity can this year’s graduates expect?

No-one in the PLP is talking about how we will pay down this massive debt. These children wont be able to, nor the young man I met the other night who felt insulted, embarrassed, and that the bank was taking advantage of his youth when they exchanged his US $1000 for 600 British Pounds. He couldn’t grasp the concept of exchange rates

Someone has suggested that the real “secret” is that the last few years have been planned, that we are meant to default, those who can are expected to leave, and when every thing has collapsed, some certain folks will ride on in and buy up everything at rock-bottom prices. Either that or we have been sold out to the Arabs who will claim our little Paradise Island for yet another playground when we default, as they are expecting us to do.

                • Judge Dredd says:

You started off on the right foot with educational equality, then you end up with Arabs taking over our little island sorry man I can’t help but lol. Now as for educational hegemony, who’s idea was the mega fail cedarbridge? Answer why the haves seemed to strategically create a situation where their private schools would out perform the majority? Clear to me. I’d like to know if those who created it sent their kids there.

        • OBA is the new UBP says:

Ask the OBA why they keep pushing blacks as poster children. Then come back and talk about who the real race users are. Know one in the OBA party wants to bring that to the table. I can see the Milk man and his UBP clowns now shhhh lets not (foxes) with the blacks we still need those SURROGATE votes from the blind view who trust us.

          • Come Correct says:

Yo dun, I have a simple question completely irrelevant to what you just said but why is it that the plp supporters/posters ALL don’t seem to KNOW the difference between NO and KNOW? IMO its either the same idiot(you) under different names, or there’s more than a handful of plp supporters that failed BASIC English. Seriously! When you understand the difference I’ll start on to, too and two…welcome back to primary school…do you understand the word primary? Do you understand when its use along with the word school, to make up primary school? I don’t usually like to be a grammar nazi but wtf was that? Anyway let’s end this comment with a thought provoking question… What lamguage do deaf people think in? Since you completely f@ck up the English language for them… Hmmmm?

            • Judge Dredd says:

First of all Mr. wise asininus the proper term for what you are referring to is orthography NOT grammar since you want to be so prim proper and snobtommy. Grammar is concerned with the structural composition of words, phrases and paragraphs, NOT the spelling of words. Since you’re still relying on your “BASIC” primary school education book which lumps them all together under “grammar” you obviously don’t know that. Now only because you deserve a light spanking for resorting to the disgraceful art of ad-hominem, I’ll point out some of your own monumental literary £u©kup$ in your comment. #1 It’s useD along NOT “when its use along with”. Did you learn that in primary school? #2 Maybe I’m not getting your lame joke but it’s laNguage not “lamguage”. #3 learn the difference between it’s and its, one is a possessive pronoun and the former means “it is”. Now although you had many other screw ups class is dismissed for today. Hurry up to your next class on how to rid yourself of racist tendencies to perceive yourself more intelligent than blacks. Unlike you, I don’t focus on every comma and grammatical mistake of posters including myself. Just wanted to burst your moronic bubble. I once heard a wise man say “Sumwon hoo does nut ‘no’ of at leest three waze two spell a wurd, isn’t really that intelligent at all”

              • Come Correct says:

Um killa I see you got your face right this time, but those are called typos from typing with thumbs on a 2 inch touch screen, not completely f@cking up a word and changing its meaning. Nice use of a thesaurus by the way.

                • Come Correct says:

Oh and what’s with you always bringing up race? Gotta keep the emotions stirred? I don’t know who is black or white or smurfs on here retard.

                  • Wow says:

You have some serious issues going on in that head of yours Come Correct. Please seek medical counseling fast before you snap. Oh and what’s with the ubp/bda/oba always bringing in a black man, why can’t the oba try having a white man as their leader.

                    • Come Correct says:

I snapped a long time ago…its…sorry, it’s amazing you can see that through a computer screen. Why are you asking me about the oba? Im hand drawing a marijuana leaf on my ballot and checking that like i’ve said numerous times before. All politicians are self-serving so they wont get my vote, its just sad the plp out ubped the ubp…blatantly. Its all good though, 5 more years of this and no one will be able to deny it. PLP ALL DE VAY BIE, all de vay back to your own f@ckin mess you created, i’d almost feel bad if the oba were elected to clean it up.

      • PLP is the new UBP says:

Its a shame that black Bermudians continue to base their arguments on a document.. I’m a black Bermudian and I know for a fact that the PLP’s hands are far from clean.. How do I know this? Because of their very own statements, such as: “we had to deceive you” and “I’m just a cog in the wheel”, and “it’s unethical but not illegal”… Those statements, along with many others, coupled with the PLP’s record is the reason they won’t be getting my vote on Monday. I’m 30 years old which means I’ve spent my entire adulthood under a PLP govt, and they went from being okay, to being straight up garbage! When ppl ask them how they plan to get the economy back on track, they say it’s on their platform, but for someone like me that doesn’t have interest in reading their bs platform, why can’t u just provide an answer? My opinion is that ppl nowadays vote for someone just because their families voted for them and it’s in their legacy, which is understandable to a degree, but on Monday I’ll be voting for the ppl that are best prepared to help me, along with the rest of Bermuda get back where it’s traditionally been viewed, so with that said, OBA all day!!

        • Dill says:

They didn’t call you a black Bermudian, which I doubt you are. They labeled us all as BLACK Surrogates and that is so wrong.

          • Come Correct says:

Um no they didn’t…because that would make no sense…which is why you are dumb…and who the plp appeal to for a vote…some incapable of think further than skin color… Please deny that to prove my point… Before you say some dumb ish or call me a racist, if you can’t see past skin color(something none of us can change naturally)…you are dumb…simple. Peace out Basil.

            • Capt says:

              Peace out..you are dumb.

You must be 12 years old. I can see you got fired because English is difficult for you to understand. Let me help you oba is ubp red and blue. Plp is white and green. When you check the voter’s card on…. Dec. em ber. 1 7.. Forget it I can’t help you, know wonder you failed in private school.

              • Blurt says:

The term surrogates was made by a consultant from overseas who orepared a report…… Nothing to do with the people who received it. Take your beef up with the report writer and stop falling into the trap of the PLP desperation to divide us.

              • Paid Bloggers are Idiots says:

I don’t get it…I actually did exceptionally well in English. Let me explain to you how I’m going to vote… I’m going to pick the party that isn’t bringing an island to its knees. Simple isn’t it?

          • PLP is the old UBP says:

@Dill it’s funny how u doubt the color of my skin simply based on my opinions.. Whether its right or wrong, it was not written by or for the OBA so it has no impact on how I’m gonna vote. Do u not think that the PLP’s consultants have given advise that has racist ideas and agendas? Do u really, truly in ur heart believe that the PLP has played fairly? If they’d done right by the ppl, they wouldn’t be so worried about losing the election in the first place smh

      • More with less says:

Never any mention of the horrible state of Bermuda from any PLP supporter. Its one thing not to vote for another party, but to support your party as if they have not robbed us blind is living in denial. Regardless if you continue to vote for PLP, you should be at least holding them accountable for the disastrous financial situation we are in. And don’t blame the recession because it is only part of the reason we are in debt, most of the debt is from poor financial and fiscal management and gross misspending. That needs to be addressed to your party and you deserve better from them for all the support you have given them over the years. Demand better from them or Bermuda will sink further into debt and your children/grandchildren will be paying dearly in the future.

      • Blurt says:

Huh, the UBP are with the PLP…the OBA are made up of Bermudians fullstop. They will work for Bermudians and Bermuda. That includes you. The PLP/UBP if you want to call it like that is there for their own personal money, not to make life better. The country will continue to fail if we don’t work together…..We are Bermudian, don’t let anyone you otherwise.

As Ewart said whites don’t need support and as Commissions said we Don’t care.

A PLP victory will show the true color of Bermudians – racism is the belief that humanity should be DIVIDED into distinct biological groups.

The PLP represents the ultimate racial solidarity in spite of $500000 debt for each of us, pathetic education, shooting every week or more and no jobs or jobs for lesser and lesser wages.

    • status! says:

@Solidarity——humanity is divided into groups—bloodtypes, culture, language, dna, whites and colored people(which includes all people of various colors)genders ect. PLP have always ‘responded’ to the race problem, which was created by whites who suffer from a god complex and try to shove it down everyone elses throat believing the blatant, abominable lie of superiority! You are already showing your colorlessness so what is your objective, what type of standards do you have and PLP can run up a debt of a trillion dollars if they feel like it! They are not shooting anyone, they certainly didn’t create the education system and jobs are created by private sector! Some people show their racism by holding on to their money to use only when their so called people get into power!there is no magic that will change society if the oba get in they will have a long learning curve while getting paid from public purse and will find a thousand excuses as to why there is no flip to their flop!

      • Eastern says:

        @ Status

Strange how you devine racim by making a racist statement

      • Blurt says:

God didn’t want us divided, he wanted us to be together and work together as one. PLP do their utmost to divide people, PLP are doing the DEVILS bidding!

        • Judge Dredd says:

Which ‘god’ are you yakking about? I hope its not the white one on a cross that blacks worshipped for centuries, cause that one is all about division and white hegemony.

    • Judge Dredd says:

Recent polls show 0% support by whites and you say “the PLP represents the ultimate racial solidarity”? ? ? ?
Then you say a PLP victory will “show the true color of Bermudians” while whites vote 100% for the white party and blacks have always voted across party lines. Are you that drunk in your delusions of grandeur that you can’t even see when you are contradicting and indicting yourself? Wow you are arrogant. If whites choose to vote 100% as a racial solidarity who is to blame for the racial divide? Who needs to change their attitude? Who’s “true colours” do those recent polls reveal? You have a severe god complex. If blacks don’t vote for the white party they’re racists. We don’t buy your spin and smear attempts.

      • Who wrote the report? says:

Why do you think whites won’t support the PLP? Do you think it might have something to do with the fact that the PLP and their supporters go out of their way to denigrate and attack them based solely on their race? Kind of like how African-Americans view the Republicans as being racist which leads to more than 90 percent supporting the Democrats.

        • Judge Dredd says:

Nice try! The PLP GREW this economy for the first 6 years they came into power and whites STILL would NOT vote for them. They would NOT vote for them before they came into power and they have carried that tradition. You speak as if there was some shift of some sort, as if whites used to vote for PLP and then stopped supporting. NO! They have NEVER EVER………EVER supported anyone except their own. So trying to draw empty similarities between the solid white voting block and democrats is just rib achingly laughable. Its exactly the opposite. We, like democrats know that your party does not like or care about our affairs and that all your surrogate Herman Caines and Cannoniers does not change that fact. Calling us racists is just yet another stab in the heart from one of your blunt and played-out tools of white hegemony. I refuse to allow you to label racists anyone who points out the continuing tradition of racism in this country. Change your attitude and you will have disarmed people like me. Support black leadership and stop trying to smear and destroy symbols of black leadership. Get help for your god complex. The fact is that you’ve never warmed up to the mere idea of black leadership you weren’t ready for it in 1998 and it appears you never will be. Tidy up!

          • Pastor Syl Hayward says:

@ Judge Dredd: The PLP would never have become the government if white peopl eididn’t vote for them. Since some black people voted UBP, and some blacks didn’t vote at all, it sis clear that some percentage of whites DID vote for the PLP more than once.

The problem I am having is that since you keep making this about race, then I have to look at the last few years and feel monumentally betrayed by my own people. If it wasn’t about race, I could just see certain PLP parliamentarians as just not very knowledgeable people. There are some in every race, so it doesn’t have to be only because they are black Instead, I have to now look at the predictions made about electing a Black government and find I cannot refute them. That is so painful, embarrassing and shameful for me, as a black woman.

        • Blurt says:

People are not going to vote for a party in this election….People are voting for a Country and for its people. We are Bermudian and proud to work together for Bermuda and Bermudians…..The only party that want to work for Bermudians is the OBA. The PLP work for their own personal agenda and never for you.

      • Triangle Drifter says:

What white party? Have you looked at the make up of the OBA, both its membership & candidates? Didn’t think so. The PLP faithful beat that drum on & on hoping for more to be suckered into believing.

Race! Is that all the PLP have? They certainly don’t have a record worth promoting.

        • Judge Dredd says:

To answer your question, yes I have looked at the OBA make up of white UBP masters who hide in the background and their black surrogates who chauffeur their party around like Driving Miss Daisy. That party is no less white than a 1920 tea party with black butlers serving the tea. You prover my point exactly, blacks have voted for UBP AND PLP while whites have ALWAYS and continue to vote as a solid racial block. If the UBP/OBA is not the white party, what other party do the whites vote for then? ?

          • Blurt says:

You are so eaily brainwashed by the PLP, their record stinks, we are in a hole and they still pretend thy did a good job.. FACT the FAILED YOU. If you want to vote for them because you are easily brainwashed, then please do. The PLP do not work for you, they work for their own agenda and pocket. Where was the paycut they promised….HMMMMMMMMMMMM. OBA said the first thing they do will to be cut their pay by 10%. PLP need to be out , to change to a party that puts Bermudians and Bermuda first, not themselvelves or their personal agendas. It’s been proven by them that it fails us all!

          • PLP is the old UBP says:

PLP will have been 50 years of existence next year. Are you trying to say that over that period, (every other party has had success integrating both blacks and whites, from the UBP, NLP, BDA, OBA) that it was all white ppl’s fault and that it was them who are racist? Will u have me to believe that it has NOTHING to do with the PLP? After 49 years, they can’t even field 5 white candiates? And yet it’s white ppls fault? Lol c’mon son

          • Keturah says:

White Bermudians who support labour would vote plp if it weren’t for the extreme views of their most vocal supporters and politicians. Not all plp’ers are like you…they just don’t have the balls to tell you that you are shooting the party in the foot.

      • Family Man says:

I don’t think ‘white’ voters choose on the basis of race as much as they do on the quality of the candidates and what they stand for.

Who have the plp put up as representative of their parties ideals?
        – a rising star caught carrying drugs for others and proudly displaying hand signs
        – a convicted armed bank robber
        – a “pastor” who hired himself as a “consultant” for $160,000 in an arrangement that even his own party leader called unethical and demanded he resign and repay the money. He did neither.
        – a speaking of the party leader; she reigned as finance minister of the biggest debacles in Bermuda’s history but claimed she was unable to stop it because she was just a cog in the wheel.

If this is the caliber of candidates, how can a voter of ANY race choose the plp?

  11. Blurt says:

Santucci, Funny how you stepped down from Chair of the PLP. Hmmmmmm….now following the Dec 5th you come out all guns blazing….what do you have in your closet?

Sounds like the OBA are all in compliance with the rules. What about the PLP.?

Where are these Hotels???????? None, all promises, but none delivered. Then Furbert starts banging on about the cost of building a hotel in Bermuda…so there you have it, none will be built, or they will if Bermudians don’t build it….I just wonder who will be the head benefiters of companies that bring in that cheap labour? Hmmmmmmm i wonder!

P Minors could be in violation of the Human Rights Act for discriminating against a persons because of their place of origins upon the awarding of a contract. It only takes the business to make a formal complaint and I think should could be in sticky water…I’m no expert. Whilst her spirit is to be commended, you have to go by the rules you make. And 8 bermudians now suffer, and 80,000 more disappears from our monies, as the new contract. Cost that much more????

DeSilva is in violation by by not disclosing salaries in the annual report to do with the Hospital. Remember his arrogance. Disgusting.

Cox has yet to deliver the Mid Year financials. How many prior year financials have had to be qualified…not a good thing, it means not squeeky clean. Where is the Accountant general, and why was she put on Administative leave before the election?

Cox has yet to stop ministers getting involved for personal gain, financial or otherwise with contracts being awarded. Think of LED, pharamaceuticals distribution, a Famous company, and JUST who is CAhow Limited?. Hmmmmmmmmmmmm

Who are the Benefiters of the Trust money on the Dame LB Evans Building?

    Where is the missing 600million

Who was Makai D. Protecting, who’s cigarettle case was it he held and took the fall for……has he been charged yet?

Why did Berkley cost over $60million more than it was supposed to. Perhaps more .

Why did theWharf cost more than was budgeted. why is it not fit for its purpose, just 2 years into being built. Why did the PLP ignore hamilton and St Georges for tourism and push all the income into Wedco… I rememer looking at a report a few years ago.. a PLP name was a director of Wedco.

Why did Bean pay himself to effectively work for himself in an already paid government quango and not pay it back, when asked, why is is still running in the PLP, when he didn’t listen to the Leader. Why did Cox go quiet on this…..there is more to this one…come on PATI, I want to know.

Why did Burgess gave a lease to Bean for White’s island for one day shy of 21 years?

Why did another Bean just in principle overule all the experts positions for a property to be built which, noone knows who it is for or what it will be. With 3 purposes on the application.

Why did Weeks and Burgess have to be separated …what is the truth behind that scuffle.

Why is Roban running….he had to resign after pushing through friends and family planning deals didn’t he?

Why haven’t we recovered the Faith Based money.

Where the hell is PATI Cox…did you just lie about that to keep us Bermudians quiet ? Show me the transparency in government?

Why does Smith pretend that the school results were great, when is is a disater….an embarresment…14 years and it’s like day 1.

Why did PLP claim they were tackling gang crime afer Perinchief admitted it took them by surprise and that he couldn’t get traction, so pushed it off to Families, youth and sports. So what has CARTEL done that earned them the super lease FREE that allows them to charge other people for use of the island!!!!!!!!!!!!

This list goes on and on and on…..

Oh, and What business does Cox’s husband do…we hear Business man all the time, what business, what is it called and how many govt contracts has it had? It may be none, he is a very nice person to speak on occassions I’ve spoken tohim, but what is his directly benefits Cox, surely she needs to disclose any govt contracts his business has. Maybe he has none.

Most important of ALL is WHY hasN’t the PLP run on their record….They have had 14 years to make Bermuda magnificent, but they failed, they made us poorer, told us what we should buy..like Grand Atlantic Condos on South Shore and completely ignored us time and time again. They know they don’t stand a chance in heaven or hell if they run on that. So get ready for more divisive, nastiness Bermuda.

Santucci…you are right, things need to be disclosed….so start in your own house and answer the above.

    • status! says:

@blurt—you couldn’t condense your thoughts to one paragraph> see how difficult it can be to even have a small accomplishment? Do you realy believe fourteen years is enough time to put a dent in this f’d up system? Why don’t you open a query business so that you can help pati get out the facts? or do you just like to blurt out!

      • de ja vodoo says:

Did it hurt you brain to hear the truth? Status?

      • Blurt says:

It was easier to read in this format. I see you were impacted by the questions as you deflected, ignored the message and pretended there was nothing of value in it. I guess you prefer Cox flowery waffle that never actually answers the question….just like the other night, when someone asked her how will the PLP create jobs? She went on and on without being able to answer the question…. EPIC FAIL.

      • Triangle Drifter says:

There is an unforgettable movie line that applies to so many propaganda drunk PLP supporters.

“The truth!!! You can’t handle the truth!”

Slowly more & more are waking up to the truth of the PLP experiment failure.

        • Back to Life, Back to Reality says:

THere is a ffamous line in a Public Enemy rap that could easily apply – “don’t believe the hype – it’s a sequel”!!!

    • Rick Rock says:

      Excellent post Blurt.

It would be nice if we could get answers to these things, but they ignore them, hoping people will forget.

    • longtail says:

Fully agree – the list of missing information and promised but missing legislation from the Ewart Brown Party seems endless….. it would take a book – not a paragraph – to catalogue their failures.

    • James Rego says:

@Blurt. Very good! Most of these answers will not be forthcoming unless the OBA get in and this terrifies them!

    • Webster says:

Amen…Blurt you are so on the money.

    • Webster says:

Blurt.so what does the Premiers husbad do ? does he have a government contact ?

  12. Nitty Gritty says:

I havent seen where the PLP have declared their interest in the millions of dollars of ours that is missing? I am sure they all have an interest in where it is maybe even knowledge of where it is, or who has it?

  13. gross says:

anthony santucci is a digusting individual. yes anthony, u know what im talking about…GROSS

  14. Xman says:

I say forget all this talk about who’s who ,who done this or that, and who said what about this and that candidate – a bunch of
    bitchin going on
What I want to know is HOW THE ECONOMY is going to be FIXED.
What is going to happen with the 3000+ people unemployed
What is either the PLP or the OBA is going to do about all this violent crime in Bermuda.
later for all the stupid talk from candidates.
by NOW all Bermudians eligible to vote should know who there going to vote for.
Personally I’m going to take my chances with the OBA because I have seen the negative and most self righteous imprint that the PLP has produced . they got me twice before – not this time.

  15. Verbal Kint says:

This would be a good topic for the independent election observers to take up. Oh yeah, there’s not any.

  16. Balanced Facts says:

Panic…make an allegation…panic…another allegation…panic…in the background the sounds of shredding…the sounds of shredding…delete e mail chains….panic….can we think of another story before Monday?….tear down their signs…panic…sounds of shredding….

    • Blurt says:

It is a sign of how desperate the PLP are, they know that they Do NOT deserve to win the election. So they tear down opposition adverts, steal signs and take pathetic pot shots to attempt to discredit the OBA. We need to show them, that this behaviour is unacceptible in Bermuda. After 14 years Bermudians need resultd for Bermudians, sadly, the only result the PLP wants is for the PLP.
That is why they won’t answer questions or run on their appauling managemnt of the country.

Why in this last two weeks are we hearing of all these new things they are apparently doing. Sounds like buying votes with promises again. You have broken too many promises PLP. You are unable to deliver.

      • Harry says:

        Two thoughts:

One: I would not put it past the juvenile delinquents who seem to have seized control of the collapsing PLP machine to attempt to prevent perceived OBA voters from getting into the Polling Stations, particularly in key marginals where ten or twenty votes can make a difference.

Two: I would neither be surprised if these same punks organise a violent reaction should by some miracle the OBA pull off a victory against a system that has clearly been gerrymandered against legitimate opposition.

I trust that all Bermudian adults will do their duty and peacefully vote their conscience and that the Police will be fully prepared for all eventualities.

  17. Triangle Drifter says:

The PLP train is headed over a bridge on Monday. They think it crosses the river Denial which they have crossed before. They are wrong. It is the river of Public Disgust & there is a huge credibility gap in the tracks to get to the other side.

Looks like the PLP train is going down. Party over.

  18. ohno! says:

there are a lot of things that should be declared I overheard someone say like what happened at grotto bay?

    • Webster says:

ohno, I think it must be a secret document some where about the “Grotto Bay” secret file,

  19. Argosy says:

    Where’s Laverne?

  20. Really??? says:

So, Why are we paying a Parliamentary Registrfrom the Parliamentary Registrar to all parties and independents requirements to be elected, where was there any official notification to the candidates of this “requirement” to gazzatte any interests? This is exactloy why it is necessary to have outside observers in elections we need to be sure that paid public servants are (1) competent and operating in our best interest; (2) have no direct or indirect party affiliations or loyalties and (3) will ensure that the electoral process does not disinfranchise the electorate in any way or result in any political instability for thye country If this is truly a problem, I rest it squarely on the shoulders of the Pariamentary Registrar for failure to do due diligence!

  21. Really??? says:

beginning should read: There are 72 candidates with party affiliations and 15 independent candidates. Just as the Pariliamentary Registrar must notify the voter of all requirements to vote, surely he has an equal responsibility to notify all candidates of what is required so as not to become disqualified and ultimately risk disenfranchising those that have voted for him or her. Was this notification given by that Office? This is exactloy why it is necessary to have outside observers in elections we need to be sure that paid public servants are (1) competent and operating in our best interest; (2) have no direct or indirect party affiliations or loyalties and (3) will ensure that the electoral process does not disinfranchise the electorate in any way or result in any political instability for thye country If this is truly a problem, I rest it squarely on the shoulders of the Pariamentary Registrar for failure to do due diligence!

  22. GOD 1st says:

The PLP, from inception until today, are the party of the people and they believe in social justice and equality for all.

    2. The PLP made our democracy stronger through one man, one vote, single seat constituencies and the democratisation of Hamilton and St. George’s.

    3. The PLP were the reason that the voting age was reduced to 18 years of age.

    4. My grandmother is able to obtain affordable health care under the PLP thanks to FutureCare.

    5. We have watched Premier Cox navigate Bermuda through the worst global financial crisis in our lives and stand strong for ALL Bermudians.

    6. I look at the PLP Team and I see a group of caring, hard-working people who are connected to the community. I see an OBA full of rookies and old UBP members.

    7. The PLP invests in the people. It puts people progress above money. I appreciate that.

    8. My friend got a DayCare allowance thanks to the PLP and can now pursue educational opportunities!

    9. My cousin opened a business in the EEZ thanks to the PLP’s grants. He now employs 2 Bermudians!

    10. The PLP trained hundreds of people – upgrading their skills and giving them access to jobs through the Waiter/Server programme, DryWall programme, Landscaping Programme, Accounting Programme and Nail Tech programme

    11. My friend lives in a beautiful affordable unit at Loughlands and I have friends at Harbour View and Perimeter Lane.

    12. The PLP introduced rent geared to income housing which makes living in Bemuda that much more affordable.

    13. Schoolkids are benefiting from higher standards thanks to the Cambridge Curriculum. People talk down our schools, but I know a lot of kids that are succeeding.

    14. Fast ferries and expanded bus routes have made it much easier to get around the island.

    15. I just don’t trust an OBA that still employs a consultant who developed a “secret plan” designed to put the old UBP guard in power.

    16. I was offended that the OBA still employs a consultant who called for the use of “black surrogates” and said that the way to get back power was to rebrand and rename.

    17. People I know don’t trust the OBA’s Cuts & Pain Commission. We don’t know what it’s all about. We don’t know who will be on it and what will be on the chopping block. What we do know is that they promise debt reduction and $500 million in new spending. That means deep and radical cuts WILL have to be made!

    18. I support the PLP because they’re going to turn Bermuda College into a university.

    19. I’m excited that the PLP is going to launch Job Corps Bermuda and the One Stop Career Centre to help get Bermudians back to work.

    20. The OBA will only look after their friends in business and open the immigration floodgates by suspending term limits!

    21. I’m looking forward to the PLP rolling out the red carpet for returning college graduates, connecting them with jobs and opportunities.

    22. I’m excited about the PLP’s plans to start the New Business Initiative, which will give business plan help and loans to our young entrepreneurs.

    23. I’m supporting the PLP because they have a true heart for the people and they understand our struggles.

    24. We must not let down our parents and grandparents who struggled to get us to this place. We must not turn the clock back and put the old UBP back in charge.

    25. I am voting PLP because they are standing strong for Bermudians like me!

    25 Reasons to Vote PLP

    More PLP rhetoric

  23. GOD 1st says:

    OBA all the way

  24. GOD 1st says:

that clip is an email i recieved from some random PLP member, supporter making desperate attempts to gain votes i don’t know how the PLP member owen Darrell even got my email i have no ties with the PLP SMH .

  25. GOD 1st says:

Time 4 change AKA A Better Bermuda

  26. Harry says:

The real plan is to establish St. George as a Gay Resort town – Think Provincetown, Fire Island or Key West except more upscale.

    • Really says:

they have a lot of things in the closet for that as we know Bermuda is on board with it just don’t let them know and keep the human right act untouched to scare off anyone who outs them

  27. GOD 1st says:

@ status you are the problem, anyone spreading venom misinforming others insulting mankind with divisive words you have spoken.GOD created us all in his own likeness and image whom ever or were ever you research information about white people is misleading and falls. I know for a fact that a selct few of black people research falls information to support their negative views in regards to white people. And to say white people are responsible for racism is misleading and false. Try reviewing all of the plp rallys start at the east end with Miss foggos comments about blacks like myself. Don’t forget to listen to yourself. Yes i am black STATUS

  28. Oh Please says:

Vote for the candidate who promises the least; they’ll be the least disappointing.

  29. A. Little says:

Poor Lois, Freddie, Julian, Austin, David, Molly, and dare I say even father Eugene, must be ‘rolling in their graves’… Surely this is not the ‘proud party legacy’ they worked so long and hard for and died for… They fought the good fight of high morals, integrity and justice, but now it all seems lost and abandoned, (10 years later) how far have we strayed?!
They would be thoroughly embarrassed and ashamed! Wayne, Randy, Dale, Jennifer, and Paula, what say you in good conscience?!
Remember ‘we had to deceive you’, ‘I’m just a cog in the wheel’, ‘mock it up’, ‘make it happen’, overspend, overspend, overspend, ‘it’s unethical but not illegal’, sorry but the
negatives far outweigh the positives… and there’s no such thing as ‘free’, somewhere, somehow we all pay… you scratch my back and I’ll scratch yours… severe lack of accountability, justice and leadership… the silence is truly deafening… the children are watching and listening too, what examples are we setting ?! Double standards abound, shameful, shameful, we can do much better to ensure our collective futures!!!
Please, Lord have mercy on our souls…… time to vote……..

So….. it took the UBP 40+ years to self destruct, fizzle and become extinct and not to be outdone, now it appears the PLP are in hot pursuit, mimicking a similar performance of scandals, hiccups and alienating themselves from the people, tourists and big business, on a much grander scale.

Possibly, the two party system needs to be shelved in the annals of history with the dinosaurs.
A golden opportunity exists for the OBA to amalgamate with the ‘near to be extinct’ PLP, as they did such a great job amalgamating and re-branding with the dormant UBP.

‘One party’, of intelligent, gifted, enlightened men and women, young and seasoned, black and white, for the collective benefit of ‘one island’, in spite of our differences and opinions. A ‘win-win’ scenario, no more ‘divide and conquer’, after all, ‘united we stand and divided we fall’.
The new name could be One United Progressive National Liberal Alliance of Bermuda, or, One United Progressive Democratic Alliance of Bermuda, or, One United Progressive Bermudian Alliance.
If we can get men on the moon, we can do this too…. it’s so crazy and preposterous it just might work, seriously folks…. consider Bill Gates and his crazy idea, look where it took him!
We do have the collective intelligence, talent and potential required to accomplish such an awesome feat!
Time will tell…… time to vote…..

  30. GOD 1st says:

@ come correct the Good governance legislation that was passed isn’t going to prevent a few people in the green regime from being investigated and, prosecuted.

  31. Ringmaster says:

The Ad in the Bermuda Sun on December 5 lists the names of 4 people: David Burt; Darius Tucker; Jonathan Smith and Zane DeSilva. In includes the name of their employer only. Section 30 subsection 6 requires the following information:

    Name
    Nature of Contract
    Interest in Contract.

The PLP Declaration failed to include 2 of the 3 requirements, so they have not complied with the law.

How about Rolfe Commissiong who is allegedly a shareholder in a company importing generic drugs from India. Are none of these purchased for sale to the Government?

  32. sickened says:

    To God 1st.
what planet have you been living on?

  33. Les B. Frank says:

    20 seats OBA
    14 seats PLP
    2 seats Ind

PLP falls apart in 2014 … Forced to rebrand and rethink their goals and mission
PLP re emerge in 2016 as a refreshing rejuvenated and relevant organization.

  34. MelloYellow says:

I would like to use this forum to ask a question regarding political text messages that i have received and continue to receive from one of the two main parties.

Firstly i would like to know how did you get my number ?

Secondly, do the wireless provider that have leaked this information realise that they are in violation of the data protection laws that are in place for this sort of mass mailing?

Can either one of the parties answer this for me, because the way to get a vote is to meet and greet and talk to people not wirelessly.

  35. Awake says:

GET YOUR FACTS STRAIGHT, SANTUCCI!!! YOU ARE PATHETIC LITTLE PEOPLE WITH EQUALLY PATHETIC LITTLE MINDS!!! DESPERATION: A STATE OF HOPELESSNESS AND RASHNESS!!!

  36. Can't belive it says:

Reading these comments are terrible. You people are so horrible to each other. Gosh, gone are the days when people could disagree but still respect each other at the same time. I so wish they could come back.
