Police Service Issues Burglary Advisory

December 4, 2012

The Bermuda Police Service has issued another burglary advisory advising the public to make sure all windows and doors are locked before leaving their homes unattended, make certain air conditioning units are appropriately secured, and secure their valuables out of sight.

The full police advisory is below:

Once again the Bermuda Police Service would like to advise the public to remain vigilant regarding burglaries, making sure all windows and doors are locked before leaving their homes unattended.

In particular, residents and merchants are advised to make certain any air conditioning units are appropriately secured, as recently there have been reported burglaries where the culprit(s) apparently gained entry by tampering with or removing window air conditioning units.

We also continue to recommend that all residents secure their valuables out of sight. In addition, take pictures and record serial numbers of all personal property, especially electronic equipment and jewellery – so that if they are stolen and later recovered, there is an accurate way of identifying them.

Members of the public are encouraged to report any suspicious activity in their neighbourhoods to the police by contacting 295-0011 at the earliest opportunity. The public is reminded that receiving stolen property is an offence punishable under the law.
