Minister Dunkley Meets With Corrections Officials
Yesterday [Jan 16], the Minister of Public Safety Michael Dunkley continued his round of familiarization visits with a visit to Corrections HQ and Westgate Correctional Facility.
Accompanied by Junior Minister Sen. Jeffrey Baron, Minister Dunkley met with Commissioner of Corrections, Lt. Col. Edward Lamb and his senior team followed by an extensive tour of Westgate.
Minister Dunkley remarked, “It is important for me to get up to speed on the workings of the Ministry’s departments and Corrections is a vital component of the public safety framework for Bermuda.
“Commissioner Lamb and his officers work extremely hard in often trying conditions and this Government is determined to make their jobs fulfilling.
“The people of Bermuda have expressed some views about their expectations of the Corrections system and I intend to work with all stakeholders to ensure that imprisonment is a deterrent to those who might offend and properly rehabilitates those who ultimately end up incarcerated.”
Later that same day the Minister met with the executive of the Prison Officers’ Association [POA] led by Mr. Dennis Brown.
The Minister further added, “Our meeting was positive and set a tone of open dialogue for the future. I am committed to working through any outstanding issues to resolution. On behalf of their members, the Executive emphasized their desire to work with the Government to ensure a safe work environment and we agreed to foster more effective communication.”
Milk Man is working hard !!! Love this
Get rid of Lamb and get someone who knows what they are doing, male or female.
This entire “round of familiarization visits” is a sham.
Photo opportunity = plain and simple.
Yng Black Mind
Too much front running and political ops. Why was there a camera man present??
YAS Dunkley!! You better fight for that Premier position!!!
oh my word! give the guy a break! Maybe now the corrections officers will get the findings of the prisons review implemented and make things safer for prisoners and officers alike! Didn’t Patrice promise they would be done within 6 months erm…….a year ago!
Bernews what are the chances of getting a press pass in order to do a walk through of Westgate for the public’s interest. Take us through a day in the inmates “life” such as the programs on american prisons. I think generally everyone would like to see first hand video from the inside. People are always talking about it being such a soft “resort” style prison, can we have a look for ourselves??
