Chief Justice Kawaley said the physical accommodations for criminal trials in Bermuda are “disgracefully inadequate”. He said the safety of court staff is “compromised in many cases by the lack of modern, secure court architecture.”

Mr Kawaley noted that Magistrates Court is housed in a purpose built building which shared with Departments not unconnected with the judiciary, while the Supreme Court and Court of Appeal are spread over three different locations.

I attended as well, to see all the seats reserved and taken by Civil Servants, and the lawyers. I noted that one male gave up his seat for a female lawyer.Perhaps in the future things will be less crowded and everyone could be seated if and when the new Attorney General moves the Supreme Court to the Dame Lois Brown-Evans building in the not too distant future. We will see!
