Richardson Wins St George’s Alderman Race
[Updated] Anthony Richardson won the St George’s Alderman’s race last night [Feb 21], defeating three other candidates — Alfonso Harris, Kristin White and Rick Wynn – for the position.
Newly elected Mayor of St George’s Garth Rothwell held the position of Deputy Mayor and Alderman in the St George’s Corporation but left the Alderman seat vacant after he was elected as Mayor.
Mr Rothwell replaced former Mayor Kenny Bascome, who now sits in the House of Assembly after defeating Dame Jennifer Smith in the 2012 General Election.
Mr Richardson previously served as Accountant General of Bermuda, Vice President at the Bank of Bermuda, CEO of the Bermuda Health Council, a lecturer at Bermuda College and as a Police Officer. He was a candidate in the 2012 General Election, challenging Premier Craig Cannonier in Constituency #12.
Update: A PLP spokesperson said, “The Progressive Labour Party congratulates the newest member of the Corporation of St. George, Mr. Anthony Richardson on his election to the position of Alderman.
“Mr. Richardson, a two time Progressive Labour Party candidate, has shown again his dedication to serving the interests of Bermuda.
“This is a critical juncture in the life of St. George’s and a strong team is needed to promote investment and development. We are confident that he will be able to make a positive contribution to the Corporation of St. George and work well with the team led by Mayor Garth Rothwell”.

Well done Alderman Richardson. I pray that you can bring new vision and ideas to the GREAT town of St.Georges.Hopefully you will get experience of the political picture, to prepare you for the next election.
CONGRATULATIONS ANTHONY !! JOB WELL DONE ! I know you will do well in this position !
I don’t know how anybody could have voted other on a popularity contest. As a registered voter and resident within the City Limits of St. Georges NOT ONE candidate has either spoken to me, or left a pamphlet at my address or even acknowledged me when they were standing outside of the Town Hall when I went to vote. As I didn’t know who was running for office, what their platform was, how they intended to help the town of St.George, what their credentials were, by any measure of sanity, I could not vote and exercised my right not to vote.
What a ridiculous situation. Only in St. Georges, Only in Bermuda.
From the sounds of it maybe you dont get involved enough for them to know who you are and tha would be only more evident here under your blog that only post a pen name,so how serious are you really about your community and your country.
I think some people who hide behind blog names have nothing to offer and are not worth paying any attention to,so if th eshoe fits please continue to wear it,as for Mr. Richardson being elected I would say it was an excellent choice. He has served Bermuda in many capacities and I think he would do well,so we congradulate him and his family who is the back bone of all his motivation and work that he does.
Victims always blame others. A little research and interest would have gone a long way. Perhaps the next time you will learn more about the issues and the people wanting to help out your town. The internet is fabulous for obtaining info. if no one come to see you. Thank God you were not voting for Mayor in London, NYC or Russian, no one would ever get elected if voters had your attitude. I praise all of those who stood up for change in St Georges. Congrat to my friend Anthony, he is an excellent choice.
Welcome to the club. Sounds very familiar. Same thing happened to a few constituents down in Devonshire on election day!!!!!
…other than..
Well done Anthony. I know you will do extremely well. You epitomize integrity. God Bless you.
Same old attitude of something for nothing. I should vote for somebody that can’t be bothered to exert any effort to demonstrate why he/she is worthy of my voting for them…just same old crap! Been scouting over Bernews for any information leading up to the election in St. George’s and the candidates. Oops maybe I was too busy working and trying to stay afloat.
This man, wanted to be a public servant really badly. He would run for Mayor of Devil’s Hole if the post were up for election. I hope now that his polictical desire has been met, he can now meet the needs of the community. It is a pity that a so-called man of God, is seeking so hard to do something he can naturally do as a community servant and as a Christian. Anyway All the best!
now STAND
This fella doesnt know when to call it a day.
If you cannot hear then you will feel.
