Carol Hill Donates $40,000 To Sunshine League
The Board and staff of Bermuda’s the Sunshine League hosted an Open House on Saturday, February 2. The event was held in celebration of the organisation’s 94th anniversary. Members of the public who attended participated in a tree planting ceremony in memory of and as a tribute to the charity’s founder, Miss Agnes May Robinson.
Miss Carol Hill, author of “Rays of Hope” [a history of The Sunshine League], attended the event on Saturday and presented the Board with a cheque for $40,000.00, being the proceeds of the sale of her book over the years.
Aderonke Bademosi Wilson, Chair of The Sunshine League, stated “It was wonderful to see so many members of the community in attendance at the Open House. During the formal portion of the afternoon, we shared the new vision and mission of The Sunshine League and encouraged people to join the various committees and other volunteer opportunities which will become active in the weeks and months ahead.”
Mrs. Bademosi Wilson added, “We were honored that Miss Carol Hill was able to join us; she made a very generous donation to support the programmes which we will implement as we move forward and nurture the seed that was planted some 94 years ago. We thank Miss Hill profusely for her generosity and continued support of The Sunshine League’s work.”
Dr. Glenn Faries, Managing Director of The Sunshine League added, “The Sunshine League has a new focus and direction. We will primarily provide support to foster families and children in foster care. As we grow and expand, the services and programmes we offer will increase. I encourage anyone who would like to volunteer to contact me at 292 4360.”
Dr. Faries concluded, “I must echo the comments made by Aderonke, and thank Miss Carol Hill for her unwavering support of The Sunshine League over the years. We look forward to continuing the legacy established by Miss Hill’s aunt in 1919.”
