BHB: Gordon Ward Remains Restricted

March 5, 2013

The Bermuda Hospitals Board today confirmed that only two patients on Gordon Ward remain symptomatic for gastroenteritis, and no new cases have been reported for patients or employees in the last 24 hours.

“Gordon Ward will remain restricted until there has been 96 hours (2 incubation periods) with no new cases reported. To date, the outbreak has been confined to Gordon Ward, thanks to the infection control protocols implemented”, a spokesperson from the BHB said.

“The admitting and transfer restrictions to Gordon Ward have resulted in longer waits in Emergency, as the number of available inpatient beds at the hospital has been reduced. Bermuda Hospitals Board hopes the restrictions will be lifted shortly, but will consider postponing elective, non-urgent surgeries should it continue.

“Bermuda Hospitals Board thanks any patients, staff and visitors who have been impacted for their patience and cooperation.”
