Azamara Quest: First Cruise Ship Visit Of 2013
The “Azamara Quest” arrived in Bermuda this morning [Mar 17], marking the first cruise ship visit of 2013. She arrived in Hamilton at around 10am, and departed at approximately 5pm.
Bermuda is the first stop for the 13-night cruise, which departed Miami and is now heading across the Atlantic to the Canary Islands before her final stop in Spain.
According to the 2013 Cruise Ship schedule [PDF] the 592-foot “Azamara Quest” will visit the island two times this year with approximately 736 passengers and 380 crew. Her next scheduled visit will be on November 22, 2013.
The Bermuda Chamber of Commerce successfully lobbied Government for a further exemption to the Public Holidays Act, to allow merchants to open their stores today due to the visit of the “Azamara Quest”.

That ship looks like it’s about the same size as the Eclipse.
What a beauty – I had the pleasure of having lunch today onboard with a tour guide plus others from Bermuda, thanks to Pat at C-Travel. Amazingly beautiful inside.
A ship came in, there was a dock to put it at, the stores were all open for the tourists and locals, I hope this is the impression we are going to give going forward, it was quite refreshing.
Y-Gurl, yes we can do it… Just get rid of the people who continue to pull us down and replace the posts with people who want to see us return as a world class destination.
No complaints that I’ve heard of thus far and I too visited and saw people walking about and very few stores closed.
The cruise season has begun!
Was nice to see a ship on front street. Just goes to show that there are still ships out there that can tie up. What a lovely day they had
Yup, government has just been to busy trying to cater to the bigger cruise lines. I bet there’s more money to be made from passengers on these smaller cruises than the larger ones as well.
ya, makes me wonder what kind of person/party I voted for a few years ago. we were told there were no small ships that wanted to visit us, and we all sat there and accepted this bull shyte that has nearly killed St George and Hamilton…..no marches back then but now all of a sudden M&P have ‘several’ outstanding issues that need urgent action.
yo swing voter u are the reason why we stuck in St Geo with no cruiseship. If you took notices it only stayed for one day. The cruiseship companies that own these smaller ship are not interested in regular calling ports. These ships do world cruises high end. completely different market then the regular weekly call to Bermuda. And untill you and alot more in St Geo relize this we can not move on and Start planning for maga cruiseship dock on our northshore and stop haven uneducated fouls like you clouding the issue
Thanks for speaking truth to the ignorant.
Tourists on this ship have more disposable income. They choose to cruise in comfort instead of milled into one big floating hotel with more cabins than suites. I just wish it would overnight to allow for the restaurants to benefit as well.
I guess most of you dont remember this ship in Hamilton last season? Amazing how our memory becomes selective when it suits our political leanings………
I thought they would get to St Geo. We did waite for them, a few made it about hand full. They were proberly told nothing in St Geo so most or all didn’t even attemp to make their way east . Poor St Geo not even the OBA cares about us
Beautiful ship..Thank you to Pat Trott at C-Travel along with the sales team out of the Miami office whom presented us with a tour of this vessel.
This ship would be a good fit for Bermuda. It would have been good for our tourism minister and the board to have been on this presentation.
Great ambiance and wonderful, attentive staff.
The last time this ship was here it was white…looks better white than than dark blue.
Saw lots of older folks coming off the ship but also didn’t see the numbers in the shops, maybe the retailers can comment on the sales.
The Azamara is in the same class of ships as that of Seabourne and Silver Seas lines.
Passengers are of a higher income bracket than that of the Carnival Cruises mega ship type.
Bda should concentrate on this class of ships rather than the mass market. That way we will have the passenger type that has money and not the masses who do not spend and do not over whelm Bda infrastructure which is currently lacking.
Bda can then provide a more personalized experience for the visitors, they will return home happy with good things to say about us and in turn their friends will book Bda trips.
