Police Search Underway After Incident In Paget

March 4, 2013

[Updated] Police officers are presently on scene in Paget this afternoon [Mar 4], with the details surrounding the incident still unclear but understood to involve a search for a person who is thought to have been chasing another person with what appeared to look like a firearm.

There are multiple police cars present in the area of the grounds of Coco Reef and Bermuda College, with some of the officers armed.

Unofficial reports do not suggest anyone has been injured, and there are no indications of this [such as crime scene tape].

Police Media Manager Dwayne Caines said that further information will be provided later today, and we will update as able.

Update 3.23pm: Business seems to be getting conducted as normal, we have seen a delivery van and taxi come through thus far. We are expecting a formal police statement on the matter shortly.

Update 3.36pm: Inspector Troy Glasgow said they responded as there was a man who “felt he was under threat.” When asked was a firearm involved, the Inspector said they cannot “verify or deny the use of a firearm.”

No one has been arrested at this stage the police said, and also noted they “in no way disrupted the activities of this facility,” and thanked everyone at both facilities for their assistance.

Inspector Glasgow asked for anyone who saw anything suspicious in the area of Coco Reef at around 2pm today to contact them.

It was nice when my guests arrived at the hotel and they were greeted by police. Embarrassing but better safe than sorry.

  5. Evelyn Barnett says:

@ Family Man. It’s amazing what you can learn from the truth! The incident had NOTHING to do with Bermuda College, other than the fact that the properties’ boundaries adjoin one another… In addition, faculty and students are on mid-semester break.

‘…very early in the investigation…’ Caines and Glasgow have that phrase down pat….

  7. No longer surprised. Tensions are most high and there doesn’t seem to be a fix to this ever growing threat of gun violence. Bermudians are up in arms with one another and it needs to stop. It is doing none of us any good. We are to quick to judge but don’t like to listen. How are we to get ahead if we continuously pull one another down and attack and kill one another. And we wonder why the script has been flipped and again no one listens. We are in dier straits. More to come….stay tuned as it is out of control. All the talk is suggestive but the walk is very much stagnant. Which way do we turn now.

  8. Sir George Somers says:

Someone got a better grade than someone else, and he was vexed!

It’s a mere matter of time before gun violence directly affects “mainstream” society that thinks the violence doesn’t involve or affect them! A hotel?

  11. Truth is killin' me... says:

It’s a b!tch when you have to run into a hotel to get away from someone running after you with a gun. Sounds like a great way to get more tourists to the island! Sort it out people!!!
