BELCO’s Health, Safety And Environment Week
Bermuda Electric Light Company Limited [BELCO] is holding its first Health, Safety and Environment Week, April 29 –May 3. The week coincides with the International Labor Organization’s World Day for Safety and Health at Work, as well as Environment Day.
The kicked off with an opening ceremony for all staff at the BELCO Monument for the laying of wreaths in memory of employees who have lost their lives in service with the Company. The ceremony emphasized the role everyone plays in creating a safe and healthy workplace.
The week-long programme, being led by BELCO’s Occupational Health, Safety and Environment department, is themed Preventing Illnesses, Injuries and Incidents.
The week features demonstrations, competitions and seminars for staff on topics such as “General Lifting and Handling”, “Health and Wellness” and a “Green Workplace” presentation by Judith Landsberg, President of Greenrock. Representatives from St. John Ambulance will also offer blood pressure and glucose testing for employees.
