May To Mark Teen Pregnancy Prevention Month

April 30, 2013

Teen Services will launch their campaign by having May proclaimed as Teen Pregnancy Prevention month. The proclamation ceremony will be held on Wednesday, May 1st at Teen Services [next to Fort Hamilton] at 12:30 pm.

The agency welcomes the public to a brief ceremony, which includes the proclamation, guest speaker – Mr. Pete Saunders [founder of Razors and Diapers], as well as entertainment by the 2013 Outstanding Teen Awards Performing Arts nominees and Seasons Learning Centre. The public is also invited to tour the Teen Services/Teen Haven facility.

A spokesperson said, “Teen Services will have an information booth at Harbor Night on May 8th and 22nd 2013. We invite young people, parents and the community at large to stop by our table and pick up literature on teen pregnancy prevention, prevention of drug and alcohol abuse, wise choices, and tips on parenting. We also challenge everyone to fill out a questionnaire and rate your knowledge on healthy sexual behavior.

“Teen Services has a long history in addressing the needs of Bermuda’s at-risk girls. Countless young people have transformed themselves from dropping out of school, being pregnant, and/or being homeless to gaining meaningful life experiences, such as completing high school, receiving a college education, housing, and employment. More importantly, those clients who were mothers were able to establish a safe and stable environment for their children.

“Teen Services recognizes that provision of comprehensive support services for at-risk young girls and women is paramount, as girls become mothers, who are responsible for raising the next generation of youth. Research shows that leaving issues unaddressed amongst at-risk girls perpetuates a continuous, viscous cycle of academic failure, teen pregnancy, gang violence, and drug abuse.

“Teen Services invites the community to get involved in raising awareness on prevention of teen pregnancy. Anyone that is interested in getting more involved as a sponsor, or as a volunteer, should contact at 292-4598 or at teenservices@northrock.bm.”

Teen Services is a local registered charity that provides comprehensive services to at-risk females, including pregnant teens and teen mothers. The program offers counseling, community prevention outreach services, and transitional housing.

In 1999, Teen Services joined forces with the National Teen Pregnancy Prevention Campaign, which is recognized worldwide, in observing May as Teen Pregnancy Prevention month. The purpose of the campaign in Bermuda is to increase public awareness on teen pregnancy. The campaign emphasizes the importance of a strong partnership between the community and families in helping young people to both recognize and avoid at risk behaviors; such as premature sexual activity, unprotected sex and drug/alcohol abuse. The ultimate aim of the campaign is to help young people make wise choices and in return reduce the rate of teen pregnancy.

need to learn to keep their legs CLOSED!

    • Deliverance says:

you’re an idiot. maybe teach your sons better!

      • It takes two says:

It’s a matter of teaching both the sons and the daughters better. If the boys didn’t have intercourse (guaranteed not to cause pregnancy) or used necessary precautions (Very slim chance of pregnancy) these girls wouldn’t get pregnant. At the same time if these girls kept there legs closed or at least used and/or required the boys to use relevant precautions teen pregnancy would also disappear or be quite rare. When a teen girl gets pregnant she is just as much at fault as the male they both made that decision.
It takes two to tango and 1+1 can = 3 if protection is not used. So many people are quick to blame it on the boy or on the girl when the fault is split evenly between them.

And the heading above is “May To Mark Teen Pregnancy Prevention Month”. I don’t know of any boys that could get pregnant.
