May 2, 2013

Arlene Brock, Ombudsman for Bermuda, was awarded an Honorary Life Membership in the International Ombudsman Institute [IOI].

Ms. Brock served on the Board of Directors of the IOI from June 2009 to November 2012. She was also the Vice-President of the IOI’s Caribbean & Latin American Region. She stated: “I was astounded to hear the news and was obviously both extremely honoured and humbled.”

In awarding her the Honorary Life Membership, the IOI cited Ms. Brock’s “exceptional commitment” and “outstanding services”. Further, the IOI notes “She became an active spokesperson of the IOI’s visions in the field of training and it can be said that thanks to Ms. Brock’s significant contribution, the IOI was able to forge partnerships with training entities and continues to offer interesting training initiatives to its members”.

Ms. Brock noted: “Since the award was established in 1993, only thirteen other people have received it. I believe I am the second woman. It goes without saying that I must share this honour with my wonderful and committed staff.”
