Banker Larry Slaughter Joins Lazard Ltd.

May 2, 2013

Lazard Ltd., the largest independent merger-advisory firm, hired Larry Slaughter as a managing director and vice chairman in its investment-banking business.

Mr. Slaughter, 49, was previously co-head of North American investment banking at JPMorgan Chase & Co., the biggest US lender, and also served as head of European investment banking corporates in London, Hamilton-based Lazard said in a statement on Thursday [May 2].

He spent 26 years at the New York-based bank and has led transactions in industries including aerospace, chemicals and health care, according to the statement.

Lazard has targeted at least $125 million in expense reductions as part of a cost-cutting program, giving the firm flexibility to hire senior employees, Chief Executive Officer Ken Jacobs told investors last week on a conference call.

“We have known and respected Larry for many years,” Antonio Weiss, Lazard’s global head of investment banking, said in the statement. “His industry knowledge, sound judgment and deal-making skills will be of great value to our clients.”
